I’ve been going to the cinema a lot lately. It’s funny how I never had time to watch many films when I was writing my dissertation in film studies… like they say: never make your hobbies your career. It just spoils all the fun.

Really want to write something about the Mamdani campaign’s use of the close-up + direct address as a way to mediate particularity and identity.

This is not a flattened universal spectatorial position—viewers become MORE aware of their own identity, not less. And curiously that informs solidarity.

House viewing is so stressful… it’s probably a bad idea to do thesis submission, job applications, and house viewings at the same time 😭

excited to share a new website at this late date of Aug 15 to try to help us collectively prepare for back to school in the interpretative humanities classroom assaulted by the AI grift, so we don't have to go it alone.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Miriam Margolyes earlier this week for @bigissue.com. 🎤

The full interview will be out soon, but due to the latest news on Palestine today, I thought I’d share this clip early. 👇

Look, I get it. Thanks THI for running these numbers. But it’s just so frigging depressing to measure scholarship and learning by $$. We Humanitarians profit the world in other ways too. 😔
“Univ. of Illinois report shows that a large humanities department like English produces substantial net profit; units like engineering and agriculture run at a loss. The widely respected Delaware Study of Instructional Costs and Productivity shows the same pattern.” /7 thi.ucsc.edu/the-humaniti...

And this is perhaps why Kpop Demon Hunter (and many Disney/Pixar films) is well-received among the queer audience:)
It's not "love me despite my (perceived) flaws and hide them", it's "love all of me, I am the sum of my parts, including my flaws"

Let’s be very clear: do not allow Israel and the U.S. to co-opt women’s rights and the feminist Woman, Life, Freedom Revolution to justify their criminal war on Iran.

My essay: www.feministgiant.com/p/essay-neta...
Essay: Netanyahu is using Muslim women’s ‘rights’ to justify his war. What hideous, hollow hypocrisy
As his troops slaughter civilians in Gaza, he claims to be standing up for Iranian women’s autonomy. He is far from the first warmonger to do so

If and when that happens, will we have a system where #ChatGPT directly talk to each other in complete gibberish? 😅
