The Washington legislature has hearings today on the Driver Privacy Act, regulating Flock and other ALPRs (licence plate readers).

The Senate Law & Justice hearing starts at 8:00, but there are several bills before SB 6002, and some of them have a lot of testifiers. #waleg

Washington State residents: they’re trying to pull online age verification bullshittery here too. This bill would require people to upload their ID/credit card to view online adult content. You can complain to your reps here: app.leg.wa.gov/pbc/bill/2112

WA state folks heads up: Age verification bills are here, be sure to spread the word and get the opposition out. These are a bad deal any way you cut it, and will inevitably lead to a lack of privacy online, particularly for queer, trans, & left-leaning web users.
The Washington state legislative session starts Monday, so it's a good time to start paying attention to the #waleg hashtag! We're tracking several privacy and tech justice bills, including HR 2112 - age verification legislation, somewhat similar to KOSA - which has a hearing next Friday morning.

There are some other interesting AI-related bills too! SB 5956 from Sen. Nobles bans AI surveillance in schools (actually it's written in terms of ADS in general -- good although not as catchy). HB 2157 from Rep. Ryu covers AI in high-risk situations. Both have hearings this week! #waleg

Even though we work on KOSA everyday, we didn’t know what bills would be in last weeks’ markup until 48 hours before the hearing.

This is the strategy- ram bills through before the public has had time to know what’s going on.

But you can always count on us to sound the alarm 🚨
