“Since 1998, independent researchers have conducted more than 40 high-quality studies involving over 5.6 million people. The conclusion is clear and unambiguous: There’s no link between vaccines and autism." -Dr. Susan Kressly, AAP President on recent changes to the CDC's website

Already a big fan of @dieworkwear.bsky.social and now he’s quoting CS Lewis 💕💕
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

The “deal” deprives Ukraine of everything it has won by withstanding Russian aggression and defending the borders of Europe.

It rewards Russian lawlessness—and makes America complicit in the lawlessness.

It’s the end of post WWII American power.

🌱Alt text: Picture of a pure purple delphinium blossom with a second bud above on a light green stem. Background is a late fall garden with pink roses, frostbitten dahlias and bare trees behind.
🌱Delphinium seed I bought in the Villandry gift shop in May has given me flowers in November. Hoping it will come back in spring! Lots of other, smaller seedlings that I should plant out and hope for the best over winter.

Just a blissful week sailing in the BVI. Bathing in clear water, wind, waves, bright sun, and sudden brief showers. Using my sea legs. Visiting many of my fish friends and inspecting the condition of the coral gardens.🌱🦑🐡

An echo chamber relies on shutting one's mind/environment to a certain viewpoint.

Imposing reasonable expectations regarding the manner of delivery on the other hand promotes the quality of discourse and the rhetorical force of *all* viewpoints.

The main question is whether to overturn Humphrey’s Executor, a 1935 case that said statutes can limit presidential removal of “quasi legislative” and “quasi judicial” officers. Modern courts say those terms are made up, but they are not. In fact, they are deeply rooted in administrative law. 2/3

I feel a chill these days when I read about things that happened a mere century ago. Just far back enough for most people to have forgotten or died. Media control by people wealthy but deluded, promoting the idea that some one guy had all the solutions and all you had to do was give in. Never again!
This was just after Lord Rothermere destroyed it and sold it to another Conservative—bonus points for the Mirror having been targeted to women before Rothermere bought it

Still dubious there is any message that would do the trick but this is a definite contender and certainly vastly better than saying “you don’t understand how the Senate works”
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

This article from @nature.com has an interesting perspective- worth reading especially now as people consider Watson’s legacy. He was an intensely unlikable fellow who, along with Crick and Rosalind Franklin, made a world-changing discovery.🧪

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.
