🌱Blowsy October in my shockingly overgrown garden garden. Dahlias and roses competing for physical supremacy. Volunteer tomatoes and great lobelias growing as if tomorrow never comes. A single aster from a 1-quart pot spreads over 4 square meters. And these beautiful blossoms:

A “Mystery Day” dahlia opens on a cloudy day amidst a crowd of stalks and support posts. She is a dark crimson “dinnerplate”with white-tipped petals.

A cluster of blue-purple heliotrope flowers against their deep green rugose foliage, moist with rain.

The dauntless “Eustacia Vye” rose showing off a beautifully quartered multiply double blossom that is light pink on the edges, grading to a center of warm peachy-pink. Against the open flower is a large bud about to open.

A vigorous orange puffball dahlia crowds up against and gets support from the previously mentioned Eustacia Vye rose. The background is a row of several types of arborvitae barely restrained by a fence. Who knew, in the middle of summer, that fall would be this exuberant?

Count me in. I come from a long line of Southern women who’ve talked their way out of speeding tickets (back to the beginning of motorized vehicles and speed limits), but understand and grieve that others do not share this particular skill. We also trespass freely.

Complicated. I’m viscerally opposed to state-enacted capital punishment. It’s unfairly applied, irreversible, and I don’t want my government killing citizens. But I admit I had no such misgivings about Ted Bundy and frankly if someone hurt my family I would want to kill them with my own bare hands.🤷‍♀️

The exit seats are different for reasons that get explained to everyone who gets assigned one prior to boarding and again at gate departure. Also when you are a passenger on any plane, ship or commercial vehicle you must follow crew instructions for your safety and everyone else‘s. Rules ≠ Fascism.

Travel hazards shouldn’t include one’s fellow passengers😟! I read this thread after completing 14 hours of travel in which -amazingly- everything went as smoothly as possible. I hope this guy gets banned for life.

Dude sitting in the emergency exit row who refuses to follow instructions is an actual problem that isn't just money. He potentially endangers everyone on the aircraft. Airlines WILL NOT fuck around about this and neither does the NTSB

It’s not throwing anyone under the bus to point out that that civil rights are EVERYONE’S rights. Trans people are being brutalized now but the political message should be that any other group could be next. Civil rights guarantee our autonomy, privacy and safety from being punished for who we are.

Oh, those mores.
Once they go, it’s blindingly obvious that Law is the last stop before social collapse, not the first.
We can’t be afraid to enforce basic norms of behavior through social penalties eg shunning, shaming, isolating, and condemning. Tolerance of evil is NOT obligatory.
