Worked hard in all-day meetings in Philly+ate well. Revisiting John's Roast Pork theperfectspotsf.com/2016/06/01/f... confirms how Philly's Dennis Cantwell improved upon it @ Palm City SF www.thebolditalic.com/tbis-top-12-new-restaurants-of-2021. Also confirms John's (still) makes my #1 cheesesteak.

1) Inspiring the great dome restaurant in the movie "The Menu" (but no one dies!), there is nothing in the world like
Alchemist restaurant in Copenhagen.

1) At irreverently delightful color-splosion of a restaurant, Shuggie’s, Le Fish Stick is just that: a giant codfish stick utilizing fish offcuts from local fishmongers. Crispy Fish Party is even more fun, whole fish curved, fried, dotted w/ dilly aquafaba, collards & trout roe.

Yes, I said Mustard Gin... James May’s eclectic James May's American Mustard Gin, a tribute to the United States with yellow mustard seed and gherkin.

1) Sommelier Paul Einbund & chef Gavin Schmidt’s James Beard-nominated The Morris is an SF treasure. Lucky Oakland now has their second restaurant, Sirene.

The draw is seafood, yo, from creative shellfish charcuterie to outside-the-box crudo. I love these fried anchovies & shishito peppers...

1) One of my top SF sushi spots has been The Shota. Owner/chef Ingi “Shota” Son opened Shoji in Feb., a cafe by day, sleek bar/restaurant by night.

Though some dishes sounded typical (e.g. ubiquitous tuna tartare), chef Intu-on Kornnawong ensures they're anything but...

1) The World's 50 Best Discovery restaurant Debora is prime example of how much Bogota's dining scene has grown since my visit in 2018. Chef Jacobo Bonilla focuses on Colombian produce w/ artful presentation+wines curated by Valentino Galán, former somm of Peru’s famed Central, Kjolle, Mil.

While staying at @25hourshotels.bsky.social Copenhagen Paper Island, a location of Hart Bageri / bakery is a couple minutes walk across the canal & provided me proper breakfasts + espresso over my return to Copenhagen.

Desserts are an unexpected strength at San Jose's Eos & Nyx. Here, common chocolate budino thankfully goes restrained on butterscotch, enhanced by hazelnut, sea salt & a line of torn mint its “secret” bright note.

Daily brunch until 3p, matzo brei quiche, pastrami-egg-cheese bagel sandwiches & rounds of dips: fab house zhug, roasted eggplant, cucumber labneh, hummus + quite good honey bell pepper with za’atar flatbread.

1) Under last night's cold moon & as we enter another season of Wintering(how I love Katherine May's book of that name!), I recall my Copenhagen trip early this year. Bornholm native chef Nicolai Nørregaard’s (pictured) Danish ingredients at 2 Michelin/ World's 50 best Kadeau reflect summer growing & winter preservation.

1) A playlist from Randy Travis to En Vogue, Waylon Jennings to Tribe Called Quest (my happiness!)

Chicken fried steak, chicken, mushrooms or trout? Then choose sauce: classic white gravy, Memphis honey w/ koolickles or local nod of basil, garlic, Fresno chiles, oyster sauce.

I’m a classic car lover myself but I’m fascinated by the speed, ear-shattering noise and deftness of Formula One cars at my first F1 practice runs last night.

1) I don't take for granted the crazy invitations that come my way.
