As soon as I read the jacket synopsis, I knew this would be a work of fiction ripe for a “I am Legend” or “The Road” styled film adaption. Cormac McCarthy has sadly been long passed away, so Peter Heller might be the guy now.

The natural world as presented to me as a child was a mythical reconstruction of a time and place that was already on its way out the door. Accepting the destruction of all things by human hands is par for the course in this life.

Yesterday we started #kakapo artificial insemination for the season. We do this to help maintain genetic diversity, with a potential additional benefit of improving fertility. We inseminated Esperance, who mated naturally a few nights ago. #conservation #parrots #birds

Bumped into 27 year old male #kakapo Sinbad today. He's of Fiordland descent so has important genetics, but he hasn't been a very successful breeder so far - probably because he's partially imprinted. He's in great condition this year. #conservation #parrots #birds

One of the reasons this movie is timeless is because the landscapes merely rely on the beauty of the natural world, rather than painting in skies with CGI. Likely something that was really only possible fifty years ago, when weather was more dependable.

Next movie to watch for. A nostalgic look at 2011, which for the record, was 15 years ago. Chandler Levack's last indie movie "I Like Movies" was one of my favorite movies of last year.
