From the point of view of being an Actual Historian I just find the idea of needing to be "proud" of history baffling. Identifying with the history of a nation, which is in and of itself a made up thing, is just weird. It is also something that usually corresponds with not studying history.

Just wait till some biologist professor gets in trouble because a student claims a religious belief that evolution doesn't exist or a physicist professor because a student says the world is only 6,000 years old. It'll be the death of higher education in the US and the start of a theocracy.
