One of the best parts of having been a cool and nice teenager is that every once in a while I can check in with my 16 year-old self, and realize they'd be proud of me right now 😌

Just watched Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles with a group of friends and the reactions were SO FUNNY. When Jeanne drops the shoe-polishing brush two friends literally gasped. 🤣 Then the scene where she makes coffee was deemed "brutal" and "too much" by some.

Every so often I'll be in the middle of a perfectly normal activity and my brain will just go "I should watch all the movies in the Wrong Turn franchise!"

I just happened to remember Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person and got mad at how much I hate that movie again. I checked how low I ranked it on my 86-films-long list "Vampire Movies Ranked" and it's 3rd worst placed. Only above Dracula 3000 and A Return to Salem's Lot.

Earned.

I keep on thinking of how my Portuguese-speaking circles (mostly Brazilian) don't have the habit of saying "te amo" among ourselve, and it feels so weird.
In my English speaking circles (very international), I'll itch to say "I love you" after a some months of getting closer to friends.

Often I'll end up rewatching bye sister around my birthday because I remember Tati's impeccable delivery of the line "and you did it on my birthday dinner!" And honestly bye sister might be the most problematic fave thing I can't help but unconditionally adore.

Some pictures in the Budapest Cat Museum are very anti-EU. And I had the classic cycle of cheering for it because the EU must be criticized for its atrocities. Only to read about the intention behind the piece and find out the artist wants more nationalism and less immigration. Sigh...

There's something a little bit Paris about Budapest (derogatory)

I usually ignore public figures' deaths but Béla Tarr dying while I'm visiting Hungary for the first time feels like it must be at least acknowledged.

I love noticing what baristas/restaurant staff play in different places. It's a little nugget of culture I always appreciate paying attention to when I travel especially.

Every few months I wonder if I should use my username from "Romantic Obsession" to something else, only to be reminded a few weeks later why I haven't changed it in years.

I just did the most #Christmas thing I think I've done in my whole life:

I left the family group chat on the 27th of December.

I legitimately love it when I can work out a couple days where I stay awake for unreasonably long doing a bunch of stuff because I know I'll be able to sleep extremely long after I'm done with it all. Having these days that go on for often longer than 24 hours awake with a bazillion tasks sparks joy

The four seasons this year did *exactly* what I expect of them:

Winter was perfect, no notes;

Spring made me depressed for no reason other than Spring;

Summer was stressful, but I was mostly in good spirits, albeit very sleepy;

Fall was relentless, the universe wanted to break me;

Someone just called me "cultured" because they found out I've seen Visitor Q, Cannibal Holocaust, The Guinea Pig Series, Dumplings, and Nekromantik.

it makes me sad to think about people talking to chatGPT like it's their best friend. why can't they just form parasocial attachments to video essayists and podcasters like i do? this sounds like i'm telling a joke except i actually do think that what i do is healthier lol i have no evidence though
