Hi folks, figured I'd do a quick intro here: my name's Vicky and I currently work on restoring/creating meadow habitat in rights-of-way in Ontario. Hopefully starting a PhD within the year in this field- stay tuned! Enjoy cat, grassland, & pollinator pics in the meantime.

It feels like there's still such an incredible disconnect in the conservation community of the impacts of flying.

Somebody I work for has taken or is planning on multiple international trips this year (conferences, AGMs, and personal). And I'm here like... Do we not care to reduce our impacts?

Oh I am so excited for this one!
April 8th's Conservation Cafe with Dr. Sandra Klemet-N'Guessan will blend multilingualism, Indigenous knowledge systems, and social-ecology. Join us at 7:30pm at the Publican for some great stories of conservation in action. Free, as always, with a cash bar 🥂💬🐟

I could listen to plant nerds all day- ranting & raving about the characteristics of bracts and erupting inflorescence in juncus? Sign me right the heck up

I love conifers year round, but I especially love them in the winter. Standing amongst the older hemlocks in this park always quiets my mind & encourages me to listen for the whispers of a snowy forest.

Took a much needed walk to soothe my spirit a bit today. Not another human soul in sight; I paused often just to listen to the beech leaves shivering, chickadees singing, and some wild turkeys gobbling in the distance.

Spent sunset down by the water. My face hurt, but it was good for my soul.

The Telepathy Tapes has interested some of my friends & I was looking for a way to explain issues with it.

I'm really grateful for McGill and it's Office for Science and Society for just being so good about laying out the issues with assumptions, poor replicability, & study design. #stayskeptical

Monarch Butterfly conservation has to be a continental effort that crosses jurisdictional boundaries, seeing as these migratory species don't understand our silly borders.

Canada listed in 2023; our southern neighbours have done a lot for Monarch, this is a natural next step 🌿

Genuinely so excited these peeps are on Bluesky now, one of the only reasons I hopped onto the dark side was to keep updated about these talks 🥹
We run a(n almost) monthly pub talk series: the Conservation Cafe! Every month during the academic year we invite an expert to the upper floor of the Publican to share their work and love of conservation science and ecological restoration. Our events are free, fun, and open to all (with a cash bar)

🌟 Throwback to my 2020 research published in @science.org 🌼🐝 We showed how bumble bees actively shape their environment—making plants flower earlier to meet their needs. Nature’s engineers in action! 🧪🌏
Sharing this for anyone who missed it—let’s dive in! [1/17] 👇

Utility corridors (commonly known as hydro corridors here in Ontario) are really neat opportunities for restoration of larger, linear tracts of habitat in urban areas. Missing this field of #goldenrod from one such restoration #solidago #nativeplants #restoration #ecology

Had a good time seeding some (read:2ha by hand broadcast) meadow habitat on a farm in the Peterborough area this past week- looking forward to seeing what pops up in the next few years 🌿 #ecologicalrestoration #meadow #grassland #pollinators

The native seed sowing set up tonight. First year using soil blocks; looking forward to seeing how they help with root development (and less pot chaos) #nativeplants #gardening #nativeseeds #ontario

So I got a long time want of mine today at the CNE: a pair of insect-adorned leggings. Can't identify them all; if any #entomologist or #bugenthusiast wants to help out, I'm all (virtual) ears!
