mainly here to talk about fan music videos. If I randomly talk about weather/climate: I have a PhD in atmospheric science and worked as a researcher for 15 years. Also fuck terfs and free Palestine. But I'm really here to talk about fan music videos.

#MusicAdvent day 7 -- G is for Ariana Grande.

This is technically not an Ariana Grande song, but she's the reason I rewatch this every six months or so

In 2026 it’s going to become fashionable to have 2 or 3 REALLY long eyebrow hairs and I’m going to be feeling pretty smug when that happens.

D is for Doechii. I was going back and forth on this because my favourite songs of hers are so different from each other, but then I realised I had to do Denial is a River, because the buildup to this video was so fun

Anyway pick a number between 1 and 100 and I’ll tell you the corresponding song on my 2025 playlist. But don’t pick 2 because that’s a festivids spoiler

In an attempt to actually post on here, I am going to do #MusicAdvent, starting with yesterday's post:

Amy Ray -- Black Heart Today, from her first solo album, a collaboration with The Butchies. 20-something fray listened to this one a LOT

I have spontaneously said "have you got" instead of "do you have" a half dozen times this week so I should be able to skip the UK citizenship test

the two shows I want to watch right now are Pluribus and the Mussolini one. I already have the streaming service that Mussolini is on so I keep thinking I should watch that first, but I'm never in the mood to start something that intense. So obvs instead of watching Pluribus I watch nothing

Steven is an expert at this one. Connie says no thank you to the whole thing and waits upstairs until the last child has gone home for the day
Another sub-genre of my collection is “cats just barely out of the reach of small children”. No date/info.

youtube loves to show me videos of Black people approving of something a white person has done, usually related to food, music, or dance. the videos are genenerally made by Black people and are all in good fun, nothing wrong with them, but the algo goes so hard for them in a way that makes me go hmm

I went to my city's queer indy bookshop in search of Metal From Heaven, The Spear Cuts Through Water, and Rakesfall. They didn't have any of them! But they did have S.L. Huang's Burning Roses and the Monk & Robot series, so it wasn't a total loss

I am so curious how Mamdani's free childcare pledge will work out. Not only does it mean spending a lot of money, it also means having a lot more childcare providers -- both in terms of workers and in terms of physical space.

Most people understand that recorded music developed out of pasta. Like eg tape was first influenced by pappardelle (reel-to-reel) and later fettuccine (cassette) or records took the idea of a round shape with grooves from rigatoni and instead of sauces, you put music on them, which is like a sauce.
