Also also, sometimes you have $7 spare in your budget and decide on a whim to buy a 10-pack of soap for strangers.

Donating cash is still best (especially monthly donations to keep the shelves stocked/the lights-on year-round), because a food dollar stretches much better with the deals food banks have in place to buy in bulk, but there is often not enough money for the comestibles, let alone the 'extras'.

Obviously, this is by no means an exhaustive list of what people need, nor of store flyers' offerings that food banks might be looking for. But if you see a bargain, and can spare to buy a couple of extras, you could make a few people's days brighter.

They don't have a flyer, but Dollarama does have Nivea lip balms for $2, wee tubs of petroleum jelly for $1.25, scrubby bath gloves for $1.25, and Clorox wipes for $3.
