Rune pulled off his mittens and blew on his hands. Never more than a temporary relief, and in the wind not even that. But in a tent? A moment of pleasure. “Don’t know if I’m a proper guard, but I’ll try. Your majesty knows the one eyed ones?” She looked surprised, as far it was possible to say from a bundle of fur. “Tonttus? Of course, but—“ He wrapped arms around his knees. The little oil lamp glowed in the tent, its precious glass orb round and bulbous. Ruddy on the edges, the intense brightness was staring at him. Would the queen mind him blowing it out?

Ensiferum was one of my formative bands 20 years ago. Not my first metal band but the first folk metal one, and it just is a genre that combines most things I love.

CW: mentions of serious injuries. The coins were good for clean linen rag too. Sigg poured vinegar on it and wiped the sores where bedding had eaten Ohto's skin around the hip bones and shoulder blades. The sprite lingered nearby. Explored. Sniffed at the lumps of meat that had been stitched over sawn bone ends. Settled on laps that had held dying friends before lovers.

*Magpie mode intensifies* Though I must admit, I did buy this from their used jewellery collection. The new had bit too steep price even for celebration. Also, details of the chain hanger on the second picture.

Rune stopped his hand halfway to the plate full of small cakes. They had dollops of red jam on top. He snatched one out of spite after realizing the advisor wasn’t talking about cakes.

Sigg followed his own advice, as shitty as it was. Every direction he looked had a temptation to rival the previous. Nothing he needed but by Horns it would be mighty to bring one of the thick ryas to warm Tilda or a painted vase to take space from her shelves. She’d have the prettiest milk jug in the whole town. One she could really show to all their neighbours.

Dark had barely thinned as he stepped out again, and if the day had been his own, he would've turned right back when the first notes of the song reached him. Dejected, he stared at the singers: jarl Ihakorpi and Kaukia at the front with their spears doubling as ski poles and ropes tied around their waists to pull a low sled. A handful of the jarl's men skiing close by, ready to guide and balance the sled when needed. Each roaring through the verses with the familiarity of years. The roughcoat in the sled didn't sing. His remains lolled along each tug, one paw dangling over the edge and leaving behind five claw tracks on the snow. Knud cracked the door open and poked his head out. "What's going on?" “It seems his highness has felled a honeypaw”, Rune hissed through his teeth.

And what would a wedding be without a bride? Sifrida, topped with her crown, huddled in Sigg’s shade and tried not to laugh. It was best to avoid such merriments, for any giggles would have soon turned into tears of frustration. But if she put aside the fact she was the main actor in this tragedy, it was all well suited for comedy.
