The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

I point to more than 100 #Chicago area #tutor #mentor programs from tutormentorexchange.net/chicago-area...

I've picked a few to support every #GivingTuesday w small contributions. I urge others to do the same.

I support the same ones each year because I know the value of on-going support.

Sounds awful on the surface. I was livid reading this. I very angrily read a lot more about what it takes to run a huge nonprofit, how much more they'd all make in a for-profit corp, and how efficent and well run FA is.

Now I'm still angry, but I'm not angry at Feeding America anymore
I was just thinking about contributing to the "charity" Feeding America. Until I discovered that the salary for its CEO, Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, was approximately $949,866 in 2024, with her total compensation being $1,113,502. Apparently, feeding America isn't her top priority.

I hope you take time to watch the Ken Burns documentary, The American Revolution. www.pbs.org/show/the-ame...

Or, just watch the last 15 minutes of the final episode, of how the constitution and branches of government were intended to keep a despot from gaining power.

We now face that peril.

Yes, it's a real problem.

Let's also keep in mind that the rights of trans people are more secure in some states than in others, and that's a real problem.

I've watched 4 episodes of Ken Burns' The American Revolution so far. It's clear that the racial discrimination and greed of today has roots back before the Revolutionary War and that many of the founders had no intention of changing that.

Back in the 1990s I was hopeful for how the Internet would connect people and ideas. Now I'm scared of how it has divided us and undermined our democracy.
