Systemic change is my love language. Talk to me about tech accountability, what it means to truly center survivors, and how we can hold cops accountable.

This reporting by the @nytimes.com sadly isn’t news to many of us. I was kidnapped at gunpoint by a Lyft driver in 2017, taken across state lines, and raped by him and 2 other men. This man currently drives for Uber. This is still a systemic problem.

This is a truly landmark case requiring REAL reform that will change systems and generations, maybe even attitudes. Awe and gratitude for the bravery of survivors like Alison — and so (too) many others.
In 2019, I sued the City of New York for systemic sex discrimination by the NYPD. Yesterday, we made history with a landmark settlement requiring NYPD reforms in sex crimes investigations. It wasn't politicians who made this happen; it was the power of survivors.

Some of y’all noticed I’ve been uncharacteristically offline. This is why, and I remain on leave for a few weeks to handle a PTSD relapse. CJR was dogged in its pursuit of my story. Because of what I do and who I am, I felt that I had to answer their questions honestly.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?

hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.

Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.

I was the EIC of Bitch Media for nearly five years. Few things bother me more than people saying “I wish Bitch still existed” because keeping it alive was so damn hard.

I wrote about that conundrum for @theflytrapmedia.bsky.social. If you want an indie pub to survive, then please pay for it.
