Countries must accelerate climate action to align with the Paris Agreement’s temperature limit. Denmark (4th) remains the top-ranked country. It ranks highly in climate policy and is among the only three countries that achieve a very high rating in renewable energies, supported by its leadership in offshore energy. The United Kingdom (5th) follows, climbing one place compared to last year and showing that years of climate policy efforts are paying off. Morocco (6th) scores well across most categories, maintains very low per capita emissions, invests significantly in public transport and has adopted a respectable new climate target for 2035. At the bottom of the ranking are Saudi Arabia (67th), Iran (66th) and the United States (65th). The largest oil- and gas-producing countries show no sign of departing from fossil fuels as a business model and continue to miss the opportunity to embrace the future.

The acceleration of the clean energy transition across Europe offshore wind farms has made offshore wind farms essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring a more sustainable future. In this Copernicus Sentinel-1 radar image, acquired on 15 October 2025, clusters of wind turbines appear as bright, structured formations on the surface of the North Sea, marking the locations of Belgian and Dutch offshore wind farms. Scattered light patterns reveal the presence of ships navigating around these installations. The Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites deliver consistent, high-resolution radar imagery which supports the planning, monitoring, and operational safety of offshore wind farms and maritime environments.

From January 1st, 2035, all new passenger cars and vans sold in the EU and UK must have zero tailpipe emissions. The target is to phase-out new petrol and diesel #ICE vehicles, including all versions of hybrids. The map indicates the estimated transition status by 2035 based on statistics and the current (as of Oct. 2025) national-level policies and incentives. Reaching 100% electric cars and vans in 2035 is feasible.

With the tax reduction initiatives passed earlier today this will most likely happen already in late 2027 👍

🥕 to maintain course and speed:

✅ Keep current tax benefits
✅ Lower electricity costs (from 2026)

Back in 2020 the Danish parliament set a bold target aiming to replace a minimum of one million fossil fuel #ICE cars with BEVs by 2030 (approx. 1/3 of the fleet).

As of September 2025 this is the number of #BEV 🔋🚘 passenger cars in #Denmark and their share (in %) of the fleet.

The plug-in hybrid technology never really took-off in #Denmark and probably peaked in August 2025 with a market share of about 4%

Only 302 new registrations of #PHEVs in Sep. 2025, while 837 were deregistered.

Number of diesel #ICE passenger cars on Danish roads peaked back in August 2020. 5 years ago!
That’s almost 230.000 diesel cars fewer today or a decline of 28%

Only 1.185 new diesel cars was registered in Sep. 2025, while 7.682 was taken off the roads.

Spanning approximately 120 kilometres in width, Thwaites is one of the widest glaciers both in Antarctica and globally. The glacier flows into the Amundsen Sea and produces smaller calving events and occasional large tabular iceberg detachment from its ice tongue. Scientists are particularly concerned about Thwaites because it is melting at an accelerating rate due to warming ocean waters beneath it, which weakens the ice from below and leads to iceberg calving processes. Current research shows the glacier loses approximately 50 billion tons of ice annually and contributes about 4% to global sea level rise. If Thwaites were to collapse entirely, it could raise global sea levels by 65 centimetres, with potential for even greater rises if it destabilises surrounding West Antarctic ice. This Copernicus Sentinel-1 image, acquired on 2 October 2025, reveals the ice tongue of Thwaites Glacier, along with newly calved ice fragments drifting nearby. The expansion of Copernicus Sentinel-1 with Sentinel-1D will support the mission in continuing to deliver key data for tracking glacier dynamics and calving events in remote areas. Today, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space announced that the Copernicus Sentinel-1D satellite will lift off onboard an Ariane 6 launcher from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana on 4 November 2025.
