Viennese first, Austrian only if you force me to admit that. Lawperson, hobby cook, sports nerd who particularly loves men's and women's cricket (supporting England and New Zealand) and football (FK Austria Wien, Liverpool FC); bi, leftist, happily OAD.

For my new followers: welcome (or welcome back if we met on The Other Place!). A PSA: this account supports trans people, tries to be antiracist (but I acknowledge I have a lot to learn), is vehemently pro-choice, very left-wing and thinks cars should be banned from any big city.

I think the trauma is real, especially for Salah (the first game of the season was 😢). I also think it creates a barrier with new players who have joined. Not deliberately so, but that is one hell of a shared experience and his 'ghost' is everywhere.

After England and New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies are the two international cricket sides I most enjoy watching. I always respected their attitude to the game and especially their fast bowlers. 🏏

Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

If you expected this Liverpool men's team to just move on from suddenly losing a friend and teammate in July, you have a lot of things to learn about psychology. I, for one, will give them grace this season.

Also, since most of the experts will focus on what India did wrong: WELL DONE SOUTH AFRICA! This is how you set up and execute an away series win. Temba Bavuma is a brilliant captain, and I'm happy for Simon Harmer getting the opportunities he deserves in test cricket.

Sides that win the World Test Championship and aren't part of the big 3 deserve more than 2 test series.

There is a lot of sport I enjoy. But none nearly as much as a day at a England vs New Zealand test. Just a full day's cricket in which I absolutely don't care who's ahead, I'm just here to see both of my teams play. Already looking forward to the Oval in 2026!

This is going to be the usual whitewash in Australia. I'm honestly glad New Zealand play as well in the not too distant future so I will be able to stay up late for an actually valuable cause.

And that's my last comment on the #MensAshes2025.

Genuinely not even annoyed. This *always* happens in Australia. There's absolutely no point in expecting anything different.

Business as usual then.
Not staying up or watching the next tests.

God where would we have been if we had a fully fit Jofra for the past 4 years?

One of the finer nuances about test cricket is its unlimited potential for funny. Like your lower middle order getting one of the only 50 partnerships in the game when you're batting.

#MensAshes2025 sleep update: 5:00, 6:50, up since 7:15 and now fully awake and sneaking out of the bedroom to watch a potentially funny lower middle order partnership.

Test cricket is the Breaking Bad of sport. Will have you amazed, angry, laughing and staring bored at your phone all within the space of just five days.

Like I said. Always watching when England bowl, never when England bat.

Austrian women's team goalkeeper becomes the first Austrian to win the Champions League: barely a headline.

Austria Men win an easy qualifying group and qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1998: entire media fall over their feet to get headlines, huge fuss.

🚨Wow - this will be huge if it bears out. Exit polls show the pro-EU D66 party has WON the Dutch election.

The far-right PVV party of Geeet Wildsrs has lost 12 seats, according to exit polls.

Huge if true.

We have reached that part in the build-up to a Men's Ashes in Australia where I wonder if I'm going to be staying up to watch England bowl. (Not bat, definitely, I have too many bad memories of batting collapses 😁) Love that bit of delusional optimism!
