Pennsylvania is not the Midwest.
I'm keeping an eye on Tuesday morning as our next low-pressure system could bring some sleet/freezing rain before sunrise (read: slick roads for the AM commute). Temperatures will warm to change everything to rain by mid-morning.

Friday night into Saturday morning will also be worth watching...

Non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner, for the win. Why not crock-pot chili instead?

There's a lot to unpack in this forecast. Highlights:
1) Mild Wednesday, OK for travel;
2) Colder for Thanksgiving & the holiday weekend;
3) Some could reach the teens Friday night/Saturday morning;
4) Cold for the Commonwealth Clash;
5) Sunday & Tuesday afternoon could see showers.

Really cool fog bow as seen from Shamrock Road this morning. And it’s a double!

Accident: NB US-29 @ Airport Road. Looks like several cars involved and at least one lane blocked.

It aint' much, but it's Charlottesville's first measurable rain in nine days. Showers will be gone by sunrise Wednesday and more rain could be coming late Friday into Saturday.

VERY windy conditions, low fuel moisture, and very dry air today will lead to critical fire danger across all of central Virginia through this afternoon. A *red flag warning* is in effect until 6pm Sunday; outdoor burning is HIGHLY discouraged.

Wednesday night was another winner for the Northern Lights. Was able to catch three substorms which contained colors and pillars visible to the naked eye.

It's definitely gonna be a jumbo coffee kinda day.

It was another great Aurora Borealis show tonight on Skyline Drive! Thankfully the skies cleared just in the nick of time. #aurora

Winds have already gusted over 30mph in Syria (Madison Co.) and Free Union (Albemarle Co.) this morning. Expect winds to stay gusty through Tuesday evening before easing somewhat for the midweek.

Fire danger will increase the next few days as conditions dry out following this weekend's showers.

It’s nice to see some foliage holdouts across Central Virginia.

Check out how much colder temepratures are at 10pm Thursday compared to 10pm Wednesday.

Oof.

As expected: severe drought conditions are now showing up in parts of central Virginia (including Charlottesville). Our yearly rainfall deficit is now roughly five and a half inches. We need rain!
November 6, 2025 at 10:42 PM
Our Carter Mountain weather station (FW5988) had a wind gust of 37mph about half an hour ago; this is the fastest gust recorded there all day.
November 6, 2025 at 2:17 AM

Here's a different perspective of our lack of rain so far this October in Charlottesville. Days in green mark days of measurable rain. We haven't even seen a half-inch of rain all month.

I am hoping between one-half and one inch of rain will fall between now and midday Thursday.

With leaves at or near peak across central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, a wind forecast like this is NOT what you want to see if you have any hopes of checking out the foliage. There may not be many leaves left on the branches by the end of the week!

This Sunday marks the end of Daylight Saving Time. We'll do so locally by turning clocks BACK one hour. How will this affect sunrise and sunset times? The graphic below provides some insight.
October 28, 2025 at 6:19 PM
Rain Wednesday night into Thursday morning won't be a drought-buster but some places could see more than a half-inch. Halloween will be windy but dry for trick-or-treating and high school football games. The jury is still out on rain chances early next week...
