A director once cut down Michael Wincott's presence in a movie because he disliked his voice.

Go ahead and ask yourself a second time if you're being pushed out for good reasons or somebody's lying and jealous.

Watching CNN conflate "social media is not real life" with "people lie sometimes on social media," and those are two separate ideas. Social media is real life. It's people. You're there! But, yeah people lie online as much or more than they do in the rest of their lives.

If you're wondering how I feel about the current Marvel Revolutionary War comic, I feel this illustrates something of my sardonic mood.
I've seen this image of Black Panther going around, but didn't know until today that it was from a bicentennial Marvel calendar that's being recreated for 2026 by Abrams. All of the images are sufficiently weird, but this one is probs the oddest. tainthemeat.wordpress.com/2013/12/15/t...

I talk about it in Us Living, but Sonny Chiba's Street Fighter is a movie about a mixed race guy so sick of racism he'll fuckin kill people rescuing a mixed race woman and getting called on how are you going to be anti-racist and be sexist? Also, he fuckin kills everybody.

Always.
And just because I want it clear

Hey

Criticism is fine

It’s great

It’s needed

And in this particular instance I probably agree with the criticism (I haven’t read it so I don’t have anything to criticize yet)

Telling someone to die is not criticism lol

You guys interested in more stuff I pulled from Ron Moore’s ‘90s AOL chats with DS9 fans?

This was in reaction to a Season 5 ep retconning Dr. Bashir’s history. OH NO! The sacred CANON was violated!

Ron has the correct perspective (and more patience than I would have.)

Nonfiction comics are still comics (and memoir is journalism). A message, or nested series of messages brought to you as a PSA.

@captannemarvel.bsky.social got me thinking about this piece, and how both in Japan and the States it was responded to as a piece done by a man about women, while it's a comic by a woman about being a woman who has learned to hate her body or that her body is a public item, and self-voyeurism.
A bizarre and touching Kaoru Mori short about an older woman, suffering from social norms, propriety, and beauty standards, either talking to and modeling for herself in a mirror or us, the reader. From Anything and Something.

You can't say you support specific women, Black people, Muslims, or the queer left and also support or tolerate Daniel Kalban (and anyone willingly working with or supporting him. That goes for specific Black women or specific enbies or just in general. Continuing to back him makes your allegiance.

I think, for superhero comics, disability should be treated like super powers; if you aren't thinking how they affect every moment of someone's life and you aren't using them creatively, why? Why is Barbara wiring with no tools but a baton? Why is her phone out of her reach? Her shower a death trap?

Enough whining from me. Found an old note from Quincy Troupe that cheered me up and I'm off to early bed having taken my meds early but at least having remembered to take them.

The Complete Adelessa touches on Vita Sackville-West's book for a library in a dollhouse, and how irl one of the biggest experts on her said it doesn't reflect her, herself, even though it's about a genderqueer fun-loving faerie traveling the world living in doll houses. I'm thinking about it again.

In The Return of Bruce Wayne, as time moves around him, Bruce doesn't really acclimate to any era, doesn't change his way of talking, behaving, except when he's in the era of his childhood, a retro-40s 1970s. He reverts. Like jumping back 30 years & growing your own Cat in the Hat hat & glow sticks.

John Constantine meets Stephen Strange. It treats John's coat as a novelty. They basically stand and talk about nothing of consequence. One is edgy, but doesn't do anything edgy. The other is stuffy, but only so much. This had three credited writers. The art is good. It has fun layouts.

I've been notified, today, that one of the major comics piracy outfits will release copies of things I mention in essays right after, and was asked if I am they. I realize this is exactly what they would say, but I am not.

It's all about who you're related to and who you know. For instance, recently I've heard two variations of "we're sorry, we thought you were your mother," and this week, though someone was really interested in my work but what they wanted was a better way to contact Joy Harjo.

Annoyed enough with the last few presses to express interest and then be weird that I feel like dropping more novels on the ko-fi before I'm degenerated past bothering.

Constantly derailed by "I'd recognize that butt anywhere"/"I know those hands" etc. I fail with faces and voices enough and some of you believe you can clock a walk or shoulders. And, maybe you can.

It's funny to me to see the accusation that it's too esoteric to be understood by anyone but well-versed die hard laid at the Batman/Deadpool they wrote and not equally (or at all) at the other one from last month.

Everybody and their cousin has seen these movies & the rest is absurdism.
