Exceptional for its size and its craftsmanship, the Vix Krater is made of several pieces, and weighs 208.6 kg in total. The vase is made of a single sheet of beaten bronze and weighs around 60 kg. made c. 530 BC

This reproduction is based on helmet fragments from the Anglo-Saxon Staffordshire Hoard. It shows how it might have looked when it was made around 1,400 years ago.

My photo shows an ornate golden helmet on display in a museum case. It is a reconstruction of an Anglo-Saxon helmet which was decorated with gilded silver sheets embossed with designs of warriors and animals. It has decorated cheek guards, a nose guard, and a long red horsehair plume running from back to front over the top of the helmet.

the opulent Neptune Pool located at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. the 100-foot-long outdoor swimming pool features an intricate pattern of blue and black marble tiles and is surrounded by classical Greek and Roman-inspired structures and statues. it was designed by architect Julia Morgan for publishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst. the pool area includes a temple-like building with columns on one side and an open colonnade on the other.

In einer Glasvitrine ein großer, fast kugelförmiger Bronzekessel. Am oberen Rand des Kessels drei umgeklappte Griffe und drei Skulpturen sitzender Löwen. Über dem Kessel an der schwarzen Rückwand mehrere Trinkhörner mit Körpern aus Milchglas, ein übergroßes Horn aus dunklem Metall mit goldenen Ringen als Verzierungen

#MosaicMonday - The Shell Mosaic, a striking Roman floor panel from the Roman city of Verulamium in Britannia. It depicts a scallop shell and was designed to fit into a semicircular room, most probably the apse of an oecus, a hall for receiving guests. It is dated to around c. AD 150.

Happy February! The Kalends of February honoured Juno Sospita, the goddess who protected the Roman state. February was considered the month of purification rites. From 13 to 15, the Romans celebrated the Lupercalia, a festival intended to purify the city and promote fertility.

The scene shows the Lupercalia purification rites (a pastoral festival observed annually from February 13 through 15) with two men forcibly holding a naked woman while a third man whips her thighs.
