Was in my shop yesterday, where I heard that all the prior year bikes they normally have on clearance by now are still full priced...because no one is really sure that there will be new inventory this year, or years to come
“It’s difficult to overstate how existential the tariffs are for the bicycle industry. Imports account for 97% of the bikes purchased in the United States, of which 87% come from China, making it ‘one of the most import-dependent industries in the U.S.’” heatmap.news/economy/trum...

Businesses were already bracing for a crash. Then came another 50% tariff on Chinese goods.

Playing with symbology and the SDOT crash data. Red translucent circles are pedestrian or cyclist serious injuries or fatalities, so circle looks darker when they stack. For the heatmap (blue fuzzy) I used all ped/cyc crashes with any injuries. This is just District 5, because I live here.

I will never stop being mad about how the media has treated the anti-trans movement as a group of ordinary people with legitimate concerns rather than the obvious frothing bigots they are.
ABC White House correspondent just released ANOTHER anti-trans EO expected that we did not cover in our piece this morning:

A federal ban on funding to programs that acknowledge and affirm transgender people.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that streets can’t be vibrant places to foster friendships and connect with neighbours. But as Donald Appleyard illustrated many decades ago, the volume & speed of traffic, and the overall design of the streets, are absolute social life dealbreakers. #StickyStreets

I ♥️ Daylighting
French law requires “daylighting” all intersections—eliminating street parking within 5 m of crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety—by 2026. Paris will complete all intersections by end of 2025.

SF will begin enforcing a similar law with fines beginning on Jan 1 www.sfmta.com/blog/statewi...

Barcelona has metro, trams, buses, bike-lanes, and walkable (& sit-able) streets. They also have these electric “trackless trams,” which are smooth-riding long buses that look like trams (which are considered cooler so it might help with ridership). I admit, they ARE very cool. Thoughts? #Barcelona

Since it was Madison's lampoon newspaper, The Onion's headlines always helped me process terrible events. 'No Way To Prevent This' was a brilliant recurring headline. It's only a step but respect that they can partner with the excellent Everytown to take over a hateful site and put it to better use.

1) First off, ignore people who insist you have to innately love it or you don’t belong here.

It's all up to states and cities to avoid a downward spiral.
