Another migrant species has decided to visit our little town of Bijagua, a rare visitor to this part of Costa Rica: the Black-throated Blue Warbler. Escaping the cold of the eastern US, it was enjoying many worms in the forest today.

Merry day seven of #fishmas! This is a naked goby, the same species and individual in my profile picture.

Naked gobies are so named because their bodies lack scales, instead covered in a thin layer of slime. These gobies are euryhaline, equally comfortable in both marine and freshwater conditions.

A freshly-molted Zammara smaragdina cicada in the forest last night at my house. These were plentiful a few months ago when it was warmer, and I was kind of surprised to see one now.

There is a project on iNaturalist cataloging first known photos of live specimens. I've got a couple that might qualify so I submitted two observations today. Here is one, a fantastic little longhorn beetle found in the Amazon rainforest.
