Too Big to Fail

New Yorker, union activist, employment lawyer, dad, generational trauma ender. He/him.
Just to get out ahead of the scandal: yes, I do turn 45 next month. Yes, my wife is only 41. I know that this is a problematic age gap, but she was 31 when we met - older than Nuzzi was when she started her affair with RFK Jr. - and fully capable of making her own bad decisions.

I wouldn't find the whole Nuzzi thing so funny if she weren't in the middle of a press tour about her book, dropping excerpts that were clearly written by a pretentious tween.
Very amusing to see the different ways that people, particularly people who are writers, are being catty about Nuzzi, who to be clear, deserves it.

I am a lawyer, and... Jesus Christ. This is unfathomable. My expectations for an insurance lawyer becoming a US Attorney were low, but not *this* low.
I’m not a lawyer but I’m pretty sure you’re not allowed to tell the jury to “vote assuming we actually have a whole bunch more secret evidence”

LOL the World Cup is not gonna happen.
Trump: If there is sign of any trouble at World Cup, we will move games from a city

As a native New Yorker I will absolutely never pretend that we don't have rampant, virulent racism here in NY, but, um, a whole bunch of my wife's family lives in Mobile, Alabama, and let me tell you that whenever we go there it is a completely different world of racism.
as a white liberal with Southern roots, quite frankly, I think other white liberals from the South need to get the fuck over their oddly defensive attitude about what should be pretty blindingly obvious.
I understand why some white liberals from the Deep South want to insist that there isn't something distinct (and bad) about Southern political culture but the problem with this is that we wouldn't even have this idea of "The South" as distinct from the rest of the US if there wasn't a there there

If I weren't 99.9% sure Nuzzi has never read Joyce, I would say this is a straight ripoff of "love loves to love love" from Ulysses.
i think this may be the bit that broke me bc I am picturing her self-satisfied smirk at coming up with this and it is, honestly, making me die a little on the inside

I regret to inform you that however bad you think this is, it's worse.

In August of 2024, the last quarterly results before the Presidential election, the unemployment rate for college graduates was 2.5%. Making America Great Again indeed.

I have never actually read anything Nuzzi has written, and if this is typical of her writing style I have to say that if this is good enough for her to keep getting work then journalism deserves to die.

Congratulations to everybody who got the war criminal confirmed to a lifetime appointment.
OMFG-ex DOJ official (& now federal judge) Emil Bove was involved in the administration's plots to murder individuals via lethal strikes

"At a DOJ conference ... Bove told drug prosecutors the ... administration wasn't interested in interdicting ... Instead... the U.S. should "just sink the boats."

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

As an Irish American, I have never actually encountered something that I considered racist against me in particular, but this... kinda seems like it?
I beg of you: please read the plot summary of this film

Ahem.

THIS IS WHAT UNION APPRENTICESHIPS ARE FOR!

Thank you.
a huge reason the auto industry cannot hire all the mechanics they need is lack of access to the technical education anyone needs to become an automotive technician! cost of this education & failure by corporations to train workers - also a huge factor.

I wonder what he has to say about David Ortiz' outspoken criticism of Trump.

Actually I don't; we all know he's just talking about white people.
Ahh so that’s why I can’t hit a 94 MPH slider

Ok I love the Pope.
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

L.A. and NYC are vastly different places that cater to different types of people, and that's fine. I personally do not like L.A. and would never live there; I understand why people say the same about NYC even though I disagree with them. Calling NYC a "tiny high school" is objectively wrong, though.

My three favorite books are Pale Fire, Ulysses, and Catch-22, so this question speaks to me. But I would want the reporter to be genuinely confused, so I'm going with (limiting it to books I've actually read and could discuss at length):

There are an endless sea of problems with what this man is doing, but the one that I cannot wrap my head around is what, exactly, he hoped to accomplish after he got that first nail in. Is he going to put 1/2" spacers in to nail the vertical and horizontal slats together? Just leave it dangling?
True comedy is watching Dave Portnay trying to use a hammer

A) Recruitment
B) When you're doing deeply unpopular things it helps to try to get the public on your side whichever way you can so that you don't get Ceaușescued.
Aside from corruption, why does DHS need to blow taxpayer dollars on advertising? If we had an alternative agency we could "patronize", no amount of glamour photos would persuade us to use DHS, anyway!

This letter is worded carefully and I don't want to victim blame but what jumps out at me is Ryan's naivety about what was coming his way. Failed to line up allies against the MAGA Board's coup and assumed business as usual rather than DoJ pressure tactics. Emblematic of elite failures nationwide

All these different little Torment Nexus Jr chatbot robots made explicitly and specifically for babies are doing GREAT

I believe everyone should have access to all the toilet paper they require, and I think it's a sign of a diseased society that anybody could consider that an unnecessary luxury for prisoners.
Apparently, Ghislaine Maxwell is living it up in prison with unlimited toilet paper. Here’s what we know about her alleged special privileges at her new federal prison camp in Texas.
