I was just reading up on it to fact check myself and we currently have maybe 30% confidence of this and hope to get to 60% or so in a few years with new telescopes and orbiters.

I’m not trying to be THAT OTHER GUY here, either, but I’m gettin up in years and have always been pretty interested in this and I think there might be a bit of misplaced confidence in your assurance that we’ve got it all mapped out.

My understanding has always been that we only actually have a small fraction of the potential threats identified. The sky is very very big and there are places we don’t watch and parts we can’t see.

If I had my way, individual ownership of fully autonomous vehicles would be illegal (or at least practically impossible due to permits and insurance). I think this is an attainable policy and would be much more worth pursuing than the doomerism.
