Between the mild intellectual dark web apostasy and death of the pope, we’re about to get a ton of @mattsitman.bsky.social audio content.
this fwiw has always been my view, that the shallow incoherence of “antiwokeness” owes itself mostly to the fact that its more aesthetics and social positioning than anything else
The more uncharitable analysis -- which I think is more accurate -- is that *none* of this is based around intellectual or even political principles but is ultimately based around the question of what kinds of media cocktail parties do you want to be invited to...

This is a smart @derekkrissoff.bsky.social essay on the life of books for a college undergraduate in 2025.

It is a reminder of the subtle ways physical books can help create community and meaning in a world that needs those connections.

It’s giving 1936 Olympics.
With some countries (including Germany), advising citizens not to travel to the United States for fear they won’t be able to get in/out in the current climate, I asked FIFA president Gianni Infantino if that is a concern ahead of the Club World Cup this summer. His response 👇

Four of the Big Five Publishers Sign Letter Urging Congress to Restore IMLS
Shuttering IMLS would be "an act of monumental neglect, violating the very foundation of America and what it stands for as a country," the publishers assert.

DOGE has now turned its sights on a small agency that provides support for community programs in every state. The National Endowment for the Humanities, which funds museums, historic sites, libraries, educators and media outlets across the country, has been told to slash staff by 70-80 percent.🧵

“The leaving the power on the table story might be the great story of higher education right now.

We have so much & yet are absolutely terrified to use it.” @tressiemcphd.bsky.social

I think about this quote almost every day. If HigherEd folds pocket Aces again we may never be dealt another.
The arbeiterjugending of US HigherEd will be accomplished by administrators “agreeing” to continue to be the R&D arm for O&G, MIC, pharma, tech, etc. in exchange for converting to a reactionary indoctrination curriculum. It’s a bad deal. Nobody has to take it. But that doesn’t mean they won’t.

Public attention & Press reporting are ESSENTIAL.

Legal rep & Legal challenges are ESSENTIAL.

Following cases & reporting new ones are ESSENTIAL.

Describing the CHILLING EFFECT on free speech is ESSENTIAL.
The US has a long history of using ideological exclusion/deportation (barring/expelling based on political beliefs, expressions, & associations) as a tool of political repression. 🗃️

I wrote about that history in "Threat of Dissent." ⬇️
