And it's easy to say that the Patrick and Rivers version is much better.

The instruments sound the same. The solo version starts out with some coughing and then Rivers singing his way through it halfheartedly, like he doesn't know the lyrics.

Only thing is, as he wasn't focused on music at the time, the recording quality isn't great. It's a lot better than most of the Maladroit demos. But it's scratchy and Rivers sounds like he's just trying to get through the song.

evidence for this, but I think The Life I Never Lived was Rivers looking at his live, the paths before him, and considering what else could have been.

The Life I Never Lived later becomes Lonely Man (which has a better buildup). But TLINL is pretty good as it is. It has a very Billy Joel vibe...

Yeah, that is pretty cool when they put a lot of work into making each show unique. Makes it worth it, if one could afford it.

somewhat different.

This has full instrumentation. But the guitars sound extra crunchy (ha) here. They'll get better, but it really stands out here.

Especially if you just listened to The Ballad of St. George.
