@davidpierce.xyz @vicmsong.bsky.social small detail to add to the great AIM episode: Facebook corporate literally ran on AIM for a good long while. We also had IRC for engineers but the default 1:1 internal messenger was originally AIM and then eventually we switched to Chat/Messenger.

political media on all sides is defined by disdain for its audience. “liberal” media believes that its audience is too insular and must be confronted with opposing views. conservative media just feeds its audience propaganda slop.

Very sad news. I have a RadRunner and RadWagon and they’re great bikes.
Rad Power Bikes files for bankruptcy protection
Rad Power Bikes is still hoping to sell its company.

Christmas Music when I was a kid: Mom put the best xmas album ever made on the record player and let it play to the end.

For my kid: She puts her NFC-enabled Santa Tonie on her Internet music box. It starts playing cloud-downloaded MP3s that Dad made by using yt-dlp on Christmas YouTube songs.

For me this will always be Borat opening weekend in a packed theater.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

The feature I still miss the most from driving a Tesla is pre-warming/cooling the car from my phone before a drive. It works perfectly and is such a quality of life boost. Toyota remote control is a joke compared to this single piece of functionality.

It’s easy to say oh what a dumb move but since the META rebrand the stock price is up 97% so tbh I doubt they give a shit about $77B of investments that haven’t directly panned out (yet).

Ranking star wars movies is complicated because there are certain themes that resonate with-- no I'm kidding, in one of them an ewok hugs Han Solo's leg and says "Ay Chihuahua." So that's number one with a bullet

This is kind of a wild photo. It’s only from 2009! The iPhone had been out for two years already!

If you elect me President I commit to outlawing that thing where you copy a share link and the service tacks on extra marketing text that you now have to delete instead of just giving you the damn url.

If a company I worked for was talking with another company’s CEO and they openly called one of our employees “piggy” it would be the end of that relationship forever + we’d spread the word far and wide. So many things bad about him and those he enables but basic human decency can’t be tossed away.

The Steam Machine throws such a wrench into my long-term plans with the PlayStation platform. We’re going to pick one up immediately and bring in our whole Steam libraries, so I feel like I should stop buying games/long term subs on PS5 soon.

My neighbors hired a tree service to cut down two massive eucalyptus trees that were right on our property line and boy let me tell you this has been entertaining to watch all day. The guy who climbs up into a huge tree and by hand cuts it down piece by piece is such a badass
