I did not listen to very much music this year. One artist I did listen to a lot though was @toloveamariner.bsky.social’s side project Soft Fossil. Their EP “Requiem” is the perfect thing to put on when I need to get settled into a longer project. Check it out!

Spotify is garbage on every count: Its treatment of artists, its ICE advertising, the CEO's investment in military AI, its leading role in the commodification and AI slopification of music, its terrible audio quality—you name it.

So I quit, and put together a complete guide to getting off Spotify:
How to quit Spotify

interesting to see her leaning on the argument that pro-palestinian voices are unfamiliar with the relevant history, as if any amount of historical context could justify what's happening in palestine
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

I didn’t hear a Brat or a Diamond Jubilee, but here’s what resonated with me most. Propagandhi probably gets the top spot.

I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl.

Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

IMPORTANT: “I boarded Montreal’s brand-new light metro line for its first voyage. From the front of the driverless train, the crowd got a privileged view…The journey was not just a tour of the REM’s 14 new stations, however—it was a preview of the most ambitious transit expansion in North America.”

Canada has forgotten how to build fast, cheap transit. A new megaproject has the fix.

Many helped with donations, but ultimately I was only able to reach $3517 of the $4500 goal. But any new donations can still greatly help as I try to rebuild my life from the ground up, or share if you can. I'll be alone this holiday season, I would like to at least be safe.

In related news, a bunch of transphobes have been trying to start an argument with me for the last couple of days and why would I engage in that when I could do pretty much anything else instead?
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Took me too long to realize there was a new Call Super album this year and not just this DJ mix. Turns out everyone on the mix is just an alias of... Call Super. And it's great!

Was listening to this again today. Can't believe how overlooked this gem of a record is. Recommended if you like melodic, minimal/ambient techno, proto-trance, F.U.S.E./Plastikman, Warp's "Artificial Intelligence" series, etc etc...
The Mariners lost but at least I'm listening to Bjørn Torske's gorgeous and overlooked ambient techno masterpiece REMAIN, released in 1995 under his "Ismistik" alias
