It seems there are exactly two kinds of stories about generative AI:
1) wildly exuberant stories about what this stuff will do sometime really soon (trust us!), and
2) stories like this about how some actual use of gen AI fails fantastically

oh, wait, I forgot:
3) gen AI is pretty good at fraud
“Internal tests found that the AI was generating podcasts riddled with errors and bias, with anywhere between 68 and 84 percent of the scripts deemed unpublishable by evaluators across three rounds of testing.”
The Washington Post Deployed Its Disastrous AI-Generated Podcasts Even After Internal Tests Showed It Was Failing Miserably
Semafor reported that the Washington Post launched its controversial AI podcast feature despite knowing it was severely flawed.

People keep telling me their reaction to reading it is a renewed interest in their own creativity and rediscovering the delight of really thinking about something, which is such a gift to me, but really it's a gift they're giving themselves and that is everything to me.
Thank you so much to everybody who has gotten a copy of BRAINS already or shared the comic, I really appreciate it! For 2 more days it will be pay what you wish on itch, so you can get it for FREE right now!

So there is already an ai-generated whitewashing campaign to bury the name of the Muslim man, Ahmed al Ahmed, who disarmed one of the Bondi Beach shooters, and replace his identity with a white guy name and that’s why even a thimble of our potable water powering this tech is too fucking much.

When we say “billionaires should not exist,” what we mean is:

Instead of billionaires…
Everyone should have healthcare.
Everyone should have housing.
Everyone should have access to healthy food and clean water.

Billionaires are a policy failure.

epic will pay for every game that gets claimed this way so yes, you are still giving money to rowling (and by extension an international campaign against trans people) by claiming this

there are other, better franchises - let this one go

Having a meltdown over every email and article I've ever written and then eventually bludgeoning my way through it is what made me the writer I am, and if I can still keep doing that to this day, so can you. Fuck AI.

This is doing really well and I want it to continue doing really well. The ban is stupid as hell and I think we should choose to stop making the world worse, because that would be a cool thing for humanity to do.

If you know anyone who would be interested in the bundle, give them a shout.
Have a look at some of the ttrpgs that are part of our bundle, there's an amazing breath of creativity in the kiwi ttrpg scene!

In other news, the whole thing about Calibri v. TNR isn't about a font face, it's about the fact that Calibri is easier for people with some disabilities to read.

They think any accommodation, however painless, should stop.

I always think about the fact that there is probably an absolute gem of a game out there that I just don't know about because it has been buried by everything else.

It's the sad reality of gamedev that even a brilliant game can be lost to the ages for a million different non game related reasons.

For a moment, I thought Battle Suit Aces featured relationship-building between members of an all-asexual crew trying to save humanity from space kaiju.

Turns out I misunderstood the meaning of "Aces" in this context, but this is still really awesome and life-affirming.
