I'm really hoping that I can get one of my "I get by" game dev skills up to at least "I make it work".

Wow, I just found out that running on an angle while holding an object and then breaking the object on a wall and triggering dialogue soft locks my game.

Game dev bugs are brutal.

Test everything all the time, folks.

Sploosh is a real word, I promise.

Halloween is just around the corner!

It's the one day a year that I can go outside and people compliment me on my outfit and overall looks.

I don't dress up for it though....

Remember tutorials should always be optional.

If players decide they just want to figure it out, then let them go.

But you probably busted your ass to make it so a thinly veiled threat doesn't hurt.

Or maybe it will…

The real bump in difficulty working on 3D games versus 2D ones is simply that there is a whole other dimension for bugs to hide in....

Here's a little game dev tip for everyone.

If a piece of code is not working, threaten it!

It won't fix the problem, but it can make you feel better about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but considering the sheer amount of knock-offs and AI slop on the Nintendo eShop, I feel like if you just sneeze in its general direction, it will let you put a game on there.

It has been a while since I have checked it out, and, oh boy, it's a sight.

That one line of code that makes your brain glitch out every time you see it but does actually make sense when you look at it again.

Let's see if any of you folks notice it.
October 6, 2025 at 12:20 AM
OK, so we all asked if we can have AI do more useful stuff like wash our dishes or mow our lawns, and now we have AI actresses....

I have an idea.

Everyone play along and be cool.

Boy, I really hope that AI doesn't take the jobs of billionaire CEOs. Am I right, guys?

When something is taking longer than I thought, my brain screams at me.

'There must be a better way!' it screams.

Is that an issue? Nope.

It just means I actually care about what I'm building.

Game dev brings out the best in me, and for that I thank it.

Now back to the grind.

Suck at something?

Do more of it.

Still suck at something?

Do more of it.

Still su DO MORE OF IT!

Don't let people fill your mind with inherent talent BS.

Everyone is capable of anything, it sometimes just requires a bit more work.
October 2, 2025 at 12:24 AM
I am clearly doing that thing where I'm working on everything other than what I need to be.

Bah! You can't forget to have fun with game dev, and in the end every little piece, no matter how dumb it is, helps make the game whole.
September 25, 2025 at 4:40 AM
A nice clean tutorial is really important to folks that don't play a lot of games.

Shame I have the focus of a squirrel that fell into a vat of Red Bull...

Game dev is one of those glorious creative places where people can ask, 'Why?' and you should respond with, 'Why not?'

Why is there an organisation of ducks seeking the destruction of swimming pools?

Why not?
September 24, 2025 at 1:40 AM
I legit jump scared myself exiting play mode and forgetting that I moved the camera to check something...

I should start recording myself working on the game so people can laugh at how dumb I can be.

The household appliance existential dread award goes to the microwave!

Nothing like watching something count a minute down and remind you that you have just spent a minute of your life doing so.

If we are so hell-bent on hurtling ourselves towards a dystopian future, can we please get some of the pros that come with all these cons?

A hoverboard would help when living in a world controlled by the wealthiest few and AI.
September 18, 2025 at 1:39 AM
Don't forget the little tasks that can improve the user experience.

Here I'm just zooming in and offsetting the camera slightly based on the player position when they talk to someone.

I feel it helps with clarity and emphasis.

It's nothing glamorous, but not everything in game dev is.

Sick or not, the game dev must go on!

So how about a little love for a reaction system I've added to the dialogue system that was written with a brain full of snot.

I'm definitely going to need to look over this once I return to the world of the living.

OK, body, so you decided to get sick on the week we were going to take it a bit easy?

Well then, I guess we will be working twice as hard then, you jerk!
September 15, 2025 at 12:21 AM
Everyone: <INSERT NEW GAME HERE> is amazing!

Me: Sure, but check out this awesome reference in Policenauts!

The world needs more Policenauts, and I should probably try to play games that were made in the last 15 years.

Nah.

Don't forget to take 10 minutes for yourselves in the insanity that can be life.

In those 10 minutes find something that sparks the positive emotions that sometimes go missing.

This video does it for me, so hey, it might do it for you.

If it doesn't, don't worry, we'll find something for you.

Being transparent in game dev is very important.

Allow me to be very transparent.

If I ever manage to sell a game, that money will be used for Magic: The Gathering cards, Junji Ito books and booze.

You have been warned.
September 9, 2025 at 11:42 PM
Oh, I nearly forgot to mention, the little guy now speaks.

There's still plenty to build surrounding the dialogue, but it's enough for now.

Trust me, this will almost all make sense… Maybe.
