yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.

I'd be on board with a congressional pay raise (and for staff too!), but absent a raise there is no reason why we can't tell congresscritters: no more trading individual securities. You can buy and sell equity index funds or Treasury bills/notes/bonds, and that's it.
