when people ask what I’m up to this weekend

I'm one of the people that lost our home in Altadena and the Eaton Fire. I don't know why I'm saying that because I'm mostly screaming into the ether here, but I guess this is how I'm processing it. We utterly loved our community (said it out-loud almost daily) and are utterly devastated.

You're going to hear a lot about Altadena, a beautiful, eccentric, really special community that suffered massive losses. If you haven't had a chance to visit, help them rebuild when it's time by coming, supporting local businesses and donating; they don't have the resources some other areas do.

My immediate plan is to be offline as much as possible and double-down on my community, especially my local one. Grieve, regroup, plan, endure.

As @lizneeley.bsky.social first said to me in 2016, “There is no wall to put our back against—except each other.”

A lot of complaints about Bluesky amount to people admitting that they have grown so accustomed to algorithms feeding them an endless train of slop that they are completely unable to manage without it

I'll win this game every time because I went to New Trier ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
who wants to play the “most famous person from your high school” game? bc mine is vanna white.
Saw an ad for Wheel of Fortune hosted by Ryan Seacrest and was almost like “not my Sajak” but then was like who gives a shit. Honestly a clever chimp could host that show

Great Washington Post nostalgia study. Adults think U.S. society was historically nicest and comfiest—most moral and close-knit, families happiest—whenever they happened to be little kids, and culture (music, movies, TV, fashion, sports, food) best whenever they were adolescents. wapo.st/3WXd9xS

yeah, NO ONE WILL SAVE YOU is phenomenal. I gasped, I cried, I thought "why the hell didn't this get a theatrical release?!" Kaitlyn Dever is incredible and @brianduffield.bsky.social deserves all the praise for pulling off such an effective and emotionally resonant story with almost no dialogue.

feels like I owe y'all a photo of Toby, a Great Pyrenees we recently rescued who had a rough start to his life but is making great progress. 5x meals a day, +10lbs. since we got him, keeps the coyotes away, and is the best floofster we could've asked for

I love how this platform doesn't adhere to the shady lock-in methods of most apps. While no in-app browser may initially seem inconvenient, it's a conscious signal to say "nah, it's cool, you can leave" and it favors our ability to use tech with intention.

With @vidiots.bsky.social and others, LA is experiencing a movie theater resurgence and I, for one, absolutely love to see it www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...
