Journalist, writer, musician, DC since 1982. Living with grief since losing my daughter Roxanne in March 2024. Writing on Korea, Japan, Cold War, Capitalism. Crazy Bob Dylan fan. Author of SPIES FOR HIRE. Now on Substack at EMPIRE BLUES.
Note: I was one of the first US journalists to write about this dark history. But my article has been suppressed by certain US peace activists who believe only they can tell the story and are now fund-raising around it. Donate to indigenous Koreans, not wealthy US NGOs. The New Republic/2019:

In 1974 I lived for a few months in a tiny cabin about a mile's hike from Figueroa Mountain Road. Totally isolated. The view down into Gaviota was just like this. Got a lot of meditation and reading in. Great, but for the 2 days military helos flew low over the mountains looking for Patty Hearst.

Agree. That excerpt you posted hits the nail on the head - Nuzzi's style (and many others') IS journalism today. As someone who came of age as a journalist before computers and the internet existed, this is a tragic development.

That first album knocked my socks off the first time I heard it. High school in Tokyo, 1969. Mama Roux my favorite song, along with Gris Gris Gumbo ya ya.
