Literally my first thought after the guy took the gun. In the US the cops would just the dude who disarmed the shooter then hold a press conference about how smart and brave the cops were during the shooting.

Maybe they just wanted to buy the script and do a bit of name laundering through a bunch of holywood names to shore up the foundation and not dissolve when their billionaire funders get bored?
