In summary the early December outlook is bleak for cold perspective, I can’t see much happening in first half but I’m not entirely discouraged by potential later in the month. (3/3)

I think the hope would be tropical forcing steering these heights more northwards to Scandi, the added complication is stratospheric zonal wind, but forecasts remain for a weaker vortex through Dec. (2/3)

Extremely cold conditions have prevailed under surface inversion in Lapland now for several days. Some stations have not risen above -25 °C even in the daytime, which is exceptional for the time of the year.

Not entirely true there has been some more significant/unusual cold in Europe, while not unprecedented. Yesterday for example in France the national indicator for Nov 22nd was 6th lowest since 1930. Not unheard of but still significant especially in 2025.
