Good question, hard to have a good answer. It's a style name mainly used in Franconia but mainly just means "full strength beer". They can vary a lot but will be at least 5% and full flavored, though whether than means malty, hoppy, darker, or some combo isn't really set.

And now Fässla Bambergator. Someone told me this is DE's strongest doppelbock (seems dubious at only 8.5%) and it's the strongest you can brew under Reinheitsgebot (obviously not true). Toasty, some caramel, alcohol sweetness and balance. Leaner but bigger than the Tegernseer. Both very nice
