I think this gets to the larger idea of hegemony, right? That large, broad categories of cultural expectations and norms can serve your ends if you can find ways of manipulating them, whether through gatekeeping or rewarding participation contingent on actions that suit you.

I'm having a hard time understanding how this is a bad thing, unless you assume that the moderate view is necessarily better, right? Obviously, there are "bad" views at al levels of the spectrum, but where they sit doesn't indicate that!

As such, the contingencies that allow for maximal individual freedom cannot be left alone, but to the contrary must be carefully designed, much in the way one might tend to a garden. Light, water, air, soil, temperature and nutrients all must be actively monitored and planned for. 2/2

I agree wholeheartedly. As a radical behaviorist (and while this may come across as too bold a claim I assure you there is a wealth of solid research to back it up), I hold the determinist position that *every* human choice has been created by society. 1/

I've wondered for years now if there couldn't be a non-profit subscription service with some kind of site/article tracking/ticket system. Maybe it apportions your views, providing a dollar amount based on where you visit.

Don't know how feasible, but in theory could support local.
