Chicago Fire Season Recap: Is This Hope?

Its been a rough decade and a half to be a Chicago Fire fan but the 2025 season has given us something we are not use to: HOPE. Here are a couple things that gave me hope for the future of this franchise.

Nothing like relegating the championship game to a small box to run an Avatar commercial. Just ligamx things.

With the #USMNT pre-sale for their friendly versus Germany going live this morning, I compared prices to the Mexico vs Belgium friendly in same venue (Soldier Field). Here are a sampling of seats

(The prices are after fees but before taxes. No re-sale prices, face value only)

If these 2 seats at midfield row 1 interest you for the mexico vs belgium friendly in chicago next year, they will run you about $1,230 each. this is retail, not re-sale

Is there a league with worse TV direction than LigaMX? Sideline reporter tells the announcers a bench clearing brawl is happening but the director shows 5 replays of the goal instead. At least he didn’t cut to the much maligned “fan cam”

I’m just glad Mora didn’t suffer an injury here. Ridiculous it was only a YC
How is this not a red card or reviewed by VAR?

Maybe I’m higher than most on the performance by Mexico but they just don’t have the attacking power to compete against better opponents. Getting a shut out last night impressed me more than beating a lesser opponent by 2 goals.
Mexico v Uruguay Observations

Mexico took on Uruguay in one of the last international windows before next summer's World Cup. I would say Mexico was the better team but the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Here are some observations.

Repeating from earlier in the week - Mexico advanced as the lowest-seeded third-placed side on the team-conduct tiebreaker ahead of Saudi Arabia.

Now they knock out Argentina, which was the No. 1 seed in the bracket after a 3-0-0 group stage, because the #U17WC is chaotic.
Mexico beat Argentina to advance at the U17s World Cup. Up next is Portugal.

#CF97 fans have something they haven't had since the Blanco days: hope. I wrote about some of the reasons why most of us feel that way.

The American World Cup is making me sick
Exclusive: FIFA will not pay a rental fee for using the Kennedy Center for the 2026 World Cup draw, disrupting the venue’s performance schedule.

The event, moved from Las Vegas to D.C., was influenced by Trump’s relationship with FIFA’s president.
FIFA will use Kennedy Center free of charge for World Cup event, contract says
The Kennedy Center booked the World Cup draw at President Donald Trump’s urging. It will occupy much of the campus and displace planned performances.

This is probably the most depressing thing I’ve read today and I think it’s a sentiment shared by a lot of fans. It sucks that FIFA has decided to make the games so inaccessible to normal people.
Man I remember being so excited when the US was picked as a host country and Seattle seemed likely to get games. Now it's clear there was no point in that excitement. These games were never going to be for me.
