Puzzle:
I have cold supply to house and a pressure reducing valve to a hot water tank with expansion tank above and overpressure relief valve
Terrible knocking and vibration starts but no water flowing. Solved by drawing hot tap (no Immersion on)
Where is the energy coming from with static water?

This is the first time that I have seen a Brooklyn lamp post and I like the added festive garland wrapped around it. Another on the far side of the road next to the steps.
Sadly the ice sculpture will soon melt, the garlands removed but the lamp post should be around for decades if not centuries.

They don't make lamps like these any more.
I am curious to know what it would look like on a dark night when it is burning.
The face may be more dramatic picked out by a shimmering flame and strong shadows dance across the wall behind.
Who wants monsters in the dark when your lamp is one?
My face when I sneak even more Christmas lunch leftovers out of the fridge for my millionth snack of the day.

This rather impish figure is in fact a drawing from 1789 of a Roman antique bronze lamp, purchased out of the collection of Baron Wassenaer at the Hague 1750.

Perhaps the AI could write the paper and book so all will be well.
Then other AI will consume it for training and no human will be needed
When I was in undergrad we had a talk in a seminar from a professor who talked about inventing a citation for a book on the history of procrastination saying he’d get to writing it latter. That citation apparently would keep popping up in other books even though the book was never written

I have experienced this when buying books.
Just bought a four volume set and the web site promoted another vendor offering the same titles at 50% more.
The web site got paid by the vendor who had no idea that was advertising wasted.
however many trillions spent on developing Algorithms and hoovering up as much data as possible and amazon's recommendation algorithm still goes "oh you bought one window air conditioner? okay, do you want 15 more?"

Anything made by humans in the past can be made today using the same methods.

True or false?

But what about mass produced items from production lines?
Yes I have seen a reproduction early light bulb.
But what about filament light bulbs that came from machines making 50,000 bulbs a day?
Every piece we make is handcrafted here in the Northumbrian hills – including our tools and moulds! We use natural materials just like the original makers, so our replicas don’t just look ancient, they feel it too.

This is an unusual museum but looking at the pictures it would be worth a visit.
I do like neon signs
Last night, I attended the 25th Anniversary member preview gala for the new book that's been published on the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, OH.

Light bulbs used to be made of soda glass when they had a filament in the centre.
Electric arcs melt glass and even quartz so to contain a high pressure sodium light use ceramic. The hunt continues to make them let out more light and increase efficiency.
💎 Ultra-fast sintering boosts transparency
AlON ceramics (≥80% transmittance, 350–4900 nm) made via ultra-fast high-temperature sintering + conventional sintering.
The result: higher density, fewer pores, HV 19.57 GPa.

I was worried about how much I was about to spend on a carbon arc lamp.
Later I saw this post and relaxed as it sold for $3,125,000.
(Add on a circa $700,000 buyers premium)
I suppose the artist name increased the price.

I wonder how many flats there are in the building in Pimlico where he has bought a flat.
With the introduction of the so-called mansion tax there must be multiple tens of thousands of additional tax revenue.
Ex Dresdner Kleinwort investment banker Tim Horlick, who was previously married to City Superwoman Nicola Horlick (née Gayford), bought an £8.5m Pimlico flat after supplying 50 million faulty PPE masks. He has now had a criminal restraint order imposed on the property. Ben Ellery in @thetimes.com

1/2 A day with my son on Friday so we went to look at HMS Belfast.
The tower bridge was shut to traffic for a short time but it did photo bomb my picture of a signal lamp. Managed to visit most of the ship

Filament bulbs typically last for 1,000 hours.
LED lamps were marketed with a 25,000 hour lifespan.
So this neon has been on for 20 years which is 175,200 hours.
They would be on the 8th LED version by now.
Long live neon.
How long does Neon last? Check out this conversation with someone who bought one of my first artworks.

@electronvalve.co
What terms do you use to differentiate between true neon (clear glass tube where gas emits light) and fluorescent where the inside of the tube has a coating that emits the light but tube ends and power supplies look the same. (Neon inside?)
Do you have a term for LED "neon" signs?

Glum, glim and glam.
A short thread on lighting to illuminate a little of a lighting display I put on for Halloween.
This bulb looks quite Glum with glass blackened. The spiral inside is made from iron in the shape of a straw beehive.
Made circa 1945 it is just a 5 watt power...

I cannot avoid AI intruding into my normal use of IT systems.
Not registered to read the link quoted below but headline suggests AI scientists are not promoting the use of AI
Will we create a new class where some people will become dependent on AI to do all their thinking?

Light bulb factories were a big fire risk due to benzine being used in a process called flashing.
This one had its own fire brigade and they won competitions for being the fastest. More details in Monday talk. www.biag.org.uk youtube.com/watch?v=fDD7...

I did enjoy watching some old film of the Robertson lamps leaving the factory.
They made 4 million per year and I know of one that has survived. It is in my lamp collection.
I will show some photographs of the inside of the factory on Monday. youtube.com/watch?v=A_vE...

On Sunday I started in one country and travelled along five motorways.
Two have a single digit number, the others two digits.
I did the entire length of a two digit one.
One two digit one had no end.
The same single digits are also in the two digit ones.
I forgot the numbers
Suggestions?

I had forgotten about precipitation with our recent heatwaves.
Reminded by the rumble of thunder and heavy rain.
I discovered the consequences when I had to paddle to my bathroom beyond my kitchen.
Maybe if I shut my back door in future the lip at the bottom will throw the water outside.
