I am 100% with my people today. Shoulders relax, brain switches on.

Roads and sidewalks are still treacherous in Inglewood in Calgary, even in my sturdy La Canadienne boots. Wouldn't have made it to a meeting without slipping & falling, barely made it down 15 Street SE, and I'm able-bodied & not a senior, yet. I climbed on the 101. Big up Calgary Transit.🚍❄️

I totally enjoy @lucyworsley.bsky.social & her research specials that play on @pbs.org. This special, on witches, is 3 years old. Dr. Worsley is wicked enough to pour herself a dram and recount the history of the witch trials. I of course looked up when Macbeth was written; 3 witches, act 1 scene 1.

Finally, violinist Amaryn Olmeda rocks up for the Barber Violin Concerto Op. 14 and crushes it. I'm the type that watches the Sphinx Competition on Detroit @pbs.org. I've seen her perform, on TV, and now her first international virtuoso performance is in Calgary?! Yes, sister, yes! Brava! 3/3

The Missy Mazzoli piece, Sinfonia for Orbiting Spheres, blew my mind. I have to ask @aztrumpet.bsky.social what the brass were playing - I think they were harmonicas, but I couldn't tell from my seats. Regardless that was epic. 2/

Enjoyed being a panelist today. The Black Graduate Students Network at @ucalgary.bsky.social, BrainSTEM Alliance, and the Social Innovation Hub at Innovate Calgary were great hosts. It is rare for me to be asked about my grad school experience.

I did a masters in law, in Scotland - not normal.

Some of my favourite signs from the rally.

Protect trans youth. Protect trans lives. Human rights are not negotiable. Rise up!

Yep, I'm one of those motherf**kers.💥🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✊🏾

Calgary! There is an absolute abundance of arts activity going on in November. Go soothe your soul, inspire your mind, or heal your heart with art. It can be ugly out there & art heals. Artists are Calgary's storytellers. Go out, witness the stories and the art. It does the body good. 🎨🎭🎤🩰🎬🎵

Watching Fred Astaire dance on the ceiling as my pre-game for Grey Cup.

Jim Picken is playing the prelude. I'm sitting beside the organ so I'll be giving Jim his cues. Just gave him his two minute warning.

Quote from @ctvnewscalgary.bsky.social story: "“A lot of promises made by a lot of these councillors that were hired was the climate fund, right? I believe that’s honestly a waste of money,” said Landon Johnston, councillor for Ward 14."

Councillor Johnston thinks this ⤵️ is a waste of money. Sigh.

Remembrance Day, increasingly for me from childhood, became focused on the music used in the remembrance services as both a chorister and a clarinetist. The music for me, that has always triggered my emotions is Arkwright's "O Valiant Hearts" with the Harris tune.

It's always lovely to see the Jack Singer Concert Hall, my concert hall IYKYK, sold out, to the tippy top, for a Weklund Centre concert with Morgan Freeman's Symphonic Blues Experience. Members of @calgaryphil.bsky.social are on stage. It is going to be an epic show.

Dr. Berruti started his academic career in Calgary, of all places, in 1986. He wasn't one of my professors back in 1992 - 1996 because he was doing work on fluidized bed technology on cokers for oil sands & production of other fine chemicals. He joined Western in 2000. www.eng.uwo.ca/chemical//fa...

I generally love going to events at the Calgary Zoo, however, as someone who lives in Inglewood, it was much nicer when the West Gate was open. Now, for a bioenergy lecture taking place in the conservatory, I have to go all the way to the North Gate then walk across the zoo almost back to my house.

Oh Blue Jays. You gave this country something to cheer about, right when we needed it. It's okay. ⚾️💙🇨🇦
