Collector of SF, Horror and Crime fiction for 50+ years. Lucky enough to have attended the 1st WFC and World Horror Conventions. Always in need of more bookshelves. Practices multitasking by watching 5 televisions at once on NFLSundays.
Well no luck. I thought this was a complete compilation of his work in F&SF but as the back cover states it only contains all his full page cartoons, reviews and fictions. So it might have still appeared there.

That sounds a lot like this book albeit with a different title. The Devil Thumbs A Ride features the same intro by Ed Gorman and Dow Mossman. It reprints all(?) of Gifford’s film review columns from Mystery Scene magazine. I can attest that it’s well worth the time of any fan of noir films.

Norm Partridge is a damn good writer who hasn’t been writing much recently. He had a new story in the overlooked anthology The Drive-In Multiplex. He was white hot in the late 90s & early 00s. Have a feeling we will be see some new work from Norm when he retires from his day job shortly.

Yesterday’s book mail. Being a collector/fan of Bloch’s since I was 12, 58 years ago, I ripped into this last night. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about Bloch but there are nuggets of info in this I was unaware of. Keep in mind though this not a biography. A must have for Bloch fans

To make up for my oversight in not mentioning Ed Bryant in my earlier post, here are some photos of at the LittleBookshop of Horrors. The 1st shows Fan Simmons, Steve Rasnic Tem and Melanie Tem waiting in line at his book signing. Next is Nancy Collins with Ed and Doug Lewis. Finally Ed’s 50thbd

Loved the Tim Kirk cover on this. I met George Record the publisher when he lived in Denver in 1972. I was in my late teens and had never talked with someone who met Derleth and other big names in the field. I was in awe of George. He was generous with his time and shared his experiences

The letter columns were amazing. Filled with pro writers and big name fans. And back in those ancient days info on other worthy fanzines was hard to come by. This I found there. Dark Brotherhood Journal was short lived but important. The article by J. Vernon Shea was controversial back then

Today’s book mail came all the way from Great Britain. Issue #4 of Harry Morris Jr.’s legendary fanzine Nyctalops. I had a copy of this previously that I sold when we moved back in 1999, I have always regretted it. Glad to have it back in fold. The first 4 issues of Nyctalops are tough gets.

Seeing the Hurwood book brings back memories of these two by him. I read these in my early teens in the mid sixties. I had been reading Bloch, Matheson and HPL. These freaked me out as they were supposedly factual.

Came across this while working on a long term project of cataloging my fanzine collection. This was distributed at either the 1st or 2nd WFC. I don’t think there was a second issue. Too bad cause it definitely had a viewpoint with a sense of humor.

After reading a bit of an ebook copy of this I had to have a physical copy. I checked ABE and 1st editions, any hardcover copies were kind of pricey. Opted to get this inexpensive 2012 paperback edition. Also got a copy of Among The Gently Mad. Read it in one sitting. Highly recommend both

Highly recommend it. Interviews with Lansdale from the beginning of his career to the present. Really worthwhile. Also recommend this PM Press collection of Joe’s. With a great interview of Joe by The late Terry Bisson, “That’s How You Clean A Squirrel”. Title piece is worth the price by itself.

Was a big fan of Geis’ fanzines. Here is photo of the man and a couple shots of the covers. The Tim Kirk cover depicting the alien’s excavating in the ruins is a favorite of mine. Geis kept up a regular schedule for many years. Here is a link for more info on Geis. efanzines.com/Taboo/

Happy to see Tanith Lee’s work getting some attention. I think a lot of the younger sf/fantasy/horror fans are not well versed in the history of the field. Articles like this help with that.

Here are the covers for these 2 issues. They must not have employed a proof reader. When they republished the Ellison story in the second issue, they screwed it up again. Listing it in the table of contents as page 152. It was on page 112. Listed as a special feature by HE no title given.

The best of the sf, fantasy, horror and mystery. Keep about 200 or so for myself and sold the rest to dealers. Do you know you will be lucky to get 10% of retail for your prized collection, if you are lucky. It was an ordeal and made me question what will happen to my books when it’s my time?
