Having an elderly parent in a severe mental health crisis is like trying to wrap your arms around a tornado to stop it from spinning, without getting whisked into the vortex yourself. #mentalillness #bipolar1 #healthcareinamerica

Mental healthcare in America is so obscenely broken. Trying to get help for my 80-yo Bipolar 1 dad having a manic episode is exhausting, heartbreaking, just maddening. Adult children of parents w sever mental illness, raise your hands. I see you and wish you well.

Like most people, I’m confused and in disbelief at a lot of daily news, but this one was really surreal- why is former journo Deborah Norville hosting a game show??? I’d rather see her feminist rage at her career being destroyed than a game show. Wow.

Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Some on the far right want to repeal the 19th amendment. Many more share a coercive, patriarchal view of women.

I wrote about this and how the far right sees subjugating women as key to building the sort of electorate they need to win. @liberalcurrents.com

Here to remind Democrats it’s not (too) progressive to say out loud that women are people.

(Remember HRC’s “women’s rights are human rights” speech? It was 30 years ago…)

I wish we could be more creative in addressing our housing needs instead of this: low-density, high-responsibility freestanding SFHs…. Even after my tough experience, I still believe in the benefits of condos, coops, and co-housing. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/22/r...

Had a spirited convo with a woman at the city-center farmers market today who was vigorously advocating for converting an unused vacant parking lot downtown into…. a parking lot. It was depressing. A block away, 3-4 spots had been roped off for roadwork without catastrophe! There’s enough parking!

The MSNBC commentator saying that most political violence has historically come from the left just once again showed how we suffer from failing to learn history. Lynching, pogroms, race riots, the political violence that ended Reconstruction, and against the Civil Rights Movement. Come on.

There has been a huge effort to convince us that #MeToo went too far and that our society collectively owes the very, very few perpetrators held accountable forgiveness and more power than ever.

Let the New York election results be a reminder that most people are opposed to that political project.
