I already have Holo Taco Peridot colour that's similar to My Cabbages that I don't wear since it's too cool, but I love flakies...! Tales of Ba Sing De is right up my alley ngl but like there MUST be a dupe in ILNP's catalogue of 700+ polishes, though magnetics is like their smallest selection.

If y'all ever want a new toy that gets the same results, I gotta recommend this thing. It's incredibly effective and gets a close enough shave to count as dermaplaning, even on my peach fuzz. It was for my partner but now I don't have to get nicks and burns on my legs from the safety razor.
A product photo of the Conair Barbershop Pro Shaver. It has a bit of a learning curve as you have to be extra gentle to catch just the tips of the hair at the right angle, almost hovering over the skin at the correct distance. I also like that it's cheap ($50CAD) takes regular AA batteries and is about the size of a deck of cards.

As always, I didn't take pictures of the finished product, but here is a WIP of a the hand sewn* sleep mask I've been meaning to make for ages. More deets are in the Alt text.

*Sewing machines are a sensory nightmare for me so all my sewing is mostly small hand sewn projects or repairs.
An unfinished sleep mask, it has little cat ears points at the top and a grid laid drawn on for pad stitching. Pad stitching through multiple layers of different fabrics (in this case wool batting and plain weave linen) is a non-pattern method of adding permanent, curved shaping into a garment that would otherwise lie flat. This is technique is usually used only in high end, bespoke tailoring and couture houses on suit collars and lapels. In those contexts it's very expensive as a rule due to being time intensive as there is no machine method of doing it, and requiring a relatively uncommon . I am not a practiced hand, so it took me like three or four tries to get this good enough to sit against the face properly. I could have figured out a pattern that sits against the face, but that meant a lot of drafting and sewing tiny seams, BY HAND, and pad stitching, despite being considered a high level hand sewn finish commercially, was the simpler option by several orders of magnitude for someone who isn't using a machine.

Cat successfully irradiated. 4 hour round trip for a 15 minute radioactive iodine treatment for her hyperthyroid issues.

We're supposed to shun her for about two weeks to avoid radiation exposure buuut I know her dose was less than 10mcSv an hour, around 24x the amount we are exposed to in a day...

Oh! she might be the same kind of half-dilute calico as my gal! I've only seen one other cat with that specific colour. She's been getting a bit lighter peach w age (15 in June), but the grey is the same. Is yours also downy soft? I've been wondering if it's fur texture thing instead of just colour.

Got our Hanami on at High Park, stumbled upon some white trilliums in bloom, but the real highlight was seeing a chipmunk eating a small lizard, head first.

Didn't get a photo of that chipmunk, I leave the imagery to the theatre of the mind.

A single white trillium, the flower of Ontario, a spring ephemeral that is rare to see in bloom in the wild as they bulbs take up to 10 years to flower and are harvested for the garden trade. Was gobsmacked no one noticed these among the dry leaves just off the park road!

Spider update: she seemed to have scared off the interloper by aggressively gobbling up the egg sac's silk cover so her babies could hatch. Good riddance. Try again next time, hope you get eaten.

*whispers* the requisite ugly fish Mon could be a frogfish with unreasonably high speed/accuracy since they have an incredibly high rate of successful kills by using a lure and suction. They also got lil leggies.

Frogfish can swim well enough, but are special due to their modified pectoral fins with their tiny claws that they use to to grasp and push themselves along the silty ocean floor, where they hunt for shrimp and small fish.

Ugh, forgot the final caption, here with a slightly different pic since the morning sun had snuck behind an awning for this plate. My bad doing this before breakfast 🫠

It was actually a VERY filling meal, despite looking small individually. Practically had to roll ourselves to the airport after.
Chocolate tart with miso-caramel mousse, dusted with cocoa powder and carefully topped with a dark chocolate stick and a tiny dollop of gold leaf, a perfect salty-savoury pair that was not too sweet. Green tea ice cream filled strawberry mochi, very similar in form to the mochi on one of the previous plates, their white chocolate fascinators are also topped with Chantilly cream but the trimming is fresh strawberry and a whisper of silver leaf.

Aaaand the dessert course. Didn't get pics of the scones as we were kind of in a rush before our flight later that evening. The staff at Nobu were lovely, very attentive and wanted as much feedback as possible from us, though we had trouble being anything but effusive! Worth a stop if you're in town
Pic of the very pretty pink Sakura, Berry and Hibiscus tea. Fruit tea is the only kind of tea I recommend adding sugar to, so it was a perfect pair with the dessert course, no sweetener needed. I lost the little pearl ring I'm wearing in this pic there but I might email them and see if they found it Yuzu passionfruit ice cream filled mochi with a little white chocolate hat adorned with Chantilly cream and little slices of sour plum, Sudachi and Sakura blossom mousse in a glazed red cherry shaped shell, with a sprig of dark chocolate to imitate a stem, resting on a green tea cookie. This was probably my favourite bite of the meal, and is fortunately available year-round, maybe with a slightly different cookie base. Vanilla chiffon cake with guava cream, puffed rice and a crispy little pink butterfly cookie on top. The Mango Cheesecake, the flagship of the course, in a form I've never seen before, like a bubbly little nimbus cloud crowned with a mango florette and a single edible flower. The cloud is filled with chunks of lusciously soft, perfectly ripe mango and the whole thing sits on a secret shiso leaf (aka perilla, I was mistaken in my previous caption mentioning mitsuba, which is a completely different plant, oops, fuck, yes I am still jet lagged, why do you ask) that completes the flavour profile. Even the little chocolate name plate on the cheesecake was delicious, a luscious dark chocolate that melts in your mouth.

John and I accidentally had the honour of being the first(!?) to try Nobu's Hanami Afternoon Tea menu yesterday. I forgot my ring in the bathroom but the food was worth it! Deets in the alt text. Not pictured are the finger sandwich/slider plate that we inhaled without taking pics 😩
A photo of the menu at the Nobu Hotel Portman Square in London, with a selection of black, white, green and herbal teas, a choice of either classic or vegetarian versions of savoury and sweet courses, scones, and optional champagne and sake. For full details they have a pdf available on their website, making transcribing the whole thing redundant. Photo of our tea service, John got the new Smoked Sakura Wood tea, which had a lovely mild smoked flavour light Assam, I got the Sakura Sencha Obudu, which is a gorgeous bright yellow-green colour, and had a savoury and smooth floral taste. The table itself is interesting, made of punched roundels of some kind of wood or paper, under glass. First course of savouries, crispy fried sushi rice cubes on bamboo skewers in a laquerware box, black cod in butter lettuce bites, and two little blue glass dishes with medallions of avocado paté and some kind of tuna tartare. House sushi rolls with real grated wasabi and house pickled ginger, the veggie rolls had okra, cucumber, avocado and a flavourful salad greens that might have been mitsuba (perilla leaf), the fish rolls had salmon, which is really, really good in the UK, avocado, white fish and shellfish, I'm not sure exactly which kind.

That fucking 100 proof prune almost ended my whole night at 4pm. I am not a person who naps but that shit knocked me out for an hour solid.

Anyway that was probably one of the best meals of my life. Lmk if you're ever in the Cotswolds and I'll hook you up.

Main course, rare onglet (hanger steak), beets and pickled walnuts for John, Skate, cockles and monk's beard (agretti) for me Puddings were actually both for me as John was quite full: panna cotta with blood orange and caramel sauce on one dish and dark chocolate mousse with creme fraiche with a brandy prune on the other. A close up on the dark chocolate, creme fraiche and brandy plum that put me to sleep after eating just one half.
