Karla, pinning the eel joke to the top of your feed and then never coming back here is the greatest usage of social media that I’ve ever seen.

Have you rolled up the car window on your hair yet, which is my tell that I need to get my hair cut.

Artists are human beings who need to do pesky human stuff like eat food/stay warm/pay bills & so on.

& while we do gotta put our work out there to be seen…

Feeding the slop machine helps out rich techbros more than us.

A few people still seem to think human artists owe them nice arts for free...

I bellowed “SHUT THE FUCK UP” at the neighbor’s dog who was barking directly into my bedroom window from their raised deck before I realized they were out there too. Still. Shut the fuck up, dog.

Yeah cat kibble is fine. They eat DEAD RATS.

That being said, I do like to believe that they kind of like me. It’s nice when a wild bird decides it’s ok to come near you.

I kind of hate all the internet babble about how someone is “friends” with the crows and how they bring them presents of shiny things though. Mostly they bring you poop. And you’re not their friend, you’re a moving dumpster full of possible food.

They recognize faces, so once you make friends with one, they teach their family that you’re a sucker I mean a possible food source and they will start coming down more. It can take a lot of time and effort to convince The Mafia to do business with you.

Dog food pellets. The blue jays and squirrels will eat those too, until the crows start coming down and scaring them off. Try waiting until a crow is near you and tossing a peanut on the ground near it. I also dropped peanuts or dog food as I walked to the bus.

(Forgot to stick a photo to that last post, fixed it)

Because crows have eyes on the side of their heads, they see different things at the same time. Generally they use the same eye to see things close up, like food, and the other eye to scan for predators. So I am still getting the “possible threat” eye from them, even though they seem to trust me.

It’s always like a little miracle when I sit on my front porch swing with a cup of coffee and there’s a sudden surprisingly loud whish of wing flaps and a big THUNK as a crow lands right next to me. They always bow their heads and turn to look at me with their right eye.

I enjoy it when they try to stack so many dog food pellets in their beak that they look like a PEZ dispenser.
