I was rooting for a top ranked guy named Hōshōryū because his lips go up in the middle and it makes him look like a kitty cat. I just found out he's Mongolian.

White guy won the Emperor's Cup!!

One thing I'm wondering about sumo, they have a little ceremony at first where the best wrestlers (Yokozuna rank) do a little pose and there's always a wrestler squatting nearby holding up a samurai sword. What's with the sword?

He is squatting deeply white holding out an open plamed hand to the side. Nearby two other wrestlers sit on their haunches, one of which is holding a samurai sword straight up into the air with one hand by the bottom of the sheath.

Referee almost got smashed. I love how worried the wrestlers are.
A sumo wrestling match. One wrestler has forced the other out of the ring face first, who stumbled into the referee. Both wrestlers look very worried and are extending hands to catch the other wrestler or the ref.
