on this fine fall morning I have treated myself to a full performance of Fela Kuti and Africa 70, in Berlin 1978. Tony Allen in full effect. my goodness.

well I called and left messages for both of my senators, told them in no uncertain terms they either call for Schumer’s resignation - from the senate - or they can consider themselves just as guilty as the eight who voted to kill the ACA. I ranted until the message cut off. hope they get it.

for my sins I recently rewatched Stewart’s appearance on Crossfire: even at the time it was *weak* criticism, notable only for breaking through to a mainstream audience. he was completely right about the disingenuousness on display, but still bringing a banana cream pie to an enhanced interrogation.
"oh gee why can't you all just get along, stop being divisive"
I'm sorry are you Jon Stewart on Crossfire twenty years ago? Or do you want to come back to this planet in the year 2025? The overwhelming gripe is people think you're spineless, not that your DW-NOMINATE score isn't bipartisan enough

i really do love tegan's shortform comics vlogs like this, because of the real *context* she's able to ground them in, between her own recall, historical attentiveness, and the simple objective visuals of the old floppies themselves. even in facsimile, as here, it's a frame too often elided.
Today Tegan looks at Uncanny X-Men #132, from 1980 and Marvel, by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Terry Austin.

in which we hit the second act of Dark Phoenix, and arguably the most significant sequence in the history of the series: the team is handily routed by the nefarious Hellfire Club, and the only person left to save the day is the Canadian fireplug everyone wanted to get rid of just the year before

I admit, I get … impatient, mellower it gets. there’s some hushed numbers here that struggle to hold my attention. but every time I’m ready to lose interest, they turn the corner with something big to catch up to me. I’m still on board. curious to see the sound supposedly get more expansive, later.
