I'm having the opposite experience with Starfleet Academy - enjoying it more than I was expecting.

Yes, it's a school show so does have teens and common tropes. But, I also found it charming, with lots of fun easter eggs. Holly Hunter as the Chancellor is also a strange delight.
I tried to like it. I really did. But #StarTrekAcademy is terrible.
It's just one long American frat school story with jocks and nerds, and teenage hormones.
Every single character just grates on the nerves.
It's the worst kind of American TV garbage dressed up in a Star Trek badge.

This is a great thread about the resistance in Minneapolis.

Glimmers of hope.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Starmer is a spineless coward with zero integrity.

Trying to 'both sides' this blatant illegal act and stay on Trump's good side.

Fuck dictators and those who appease them.

What the fuck.

Will be interesting to see whether other world leaders keep up their tactic of appeasement and try to act like this is normal or understandable, or if any are willing to stand up to him.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, by Becky Chambers.

It is a brilliant, hopeful story about people and connections, that makes me feel better every time I read it. I recommend it every chance I get. (The subsequent books in the series are awesome too.)

Loved the Stranger Things finale. They did a brilliant job bringing everyone together, showing how much they'd grown (levelled up), were confident in themselves, and gave us a massive team up boss battle. The extended epilogue was so welcome too.

Seeing the stage show in March, can't wait.

THIS is positive masculinity. 💚
When do you actually just see two men on a screen talking about how much they love their partners?

It was wonderful to wake up this morning to such good news from across the pond. I can't remember the last time I felt this kind of hope, like we might actually be able to make it back to sanity and empathy.

Now we need to keep the progressive wave going over here.

Make hope normal again!
Zohran's campaign was his determination to make New York a city everyone can afford to live in. Huge congratulations!

His success will resonate throughout the world. A story where no one is left behind.

It's time to write that story across England & Wales too.

There are a ton of reasons why mandatory ID cards are a terrible idea, especially if it's run by an awful American data mining org like Palantir.

Petitions themselves don't do much, but media pressure can help if the signatures get high enough.

We demand that the UK Government immediately commits to not introducing a digital ID cards. There are reports that this is being looked at.

First time at the Notting Hill Carnival yesterday. Excellent experience - great to see different cultures, wonderful music on the parade and excellent costumes.

Long day though, out of the door in full make up at 6.30am, drinking and dancing most of the day, home at 11pm. Today is for rest.

I watched KPop Demon Hunters last night and it was excellent - awesome to see fun girl culture, gorgeous animation, and surprisingly good songs.

I immediately searched for sequel news and was not disappointed!
‘KPop Demon Hunters’ director Maggie Kang says a sequel could reveal the band’s backstory:

“What is it about these girls that brought them into HUNTR/X and made them demon hunters? How did they get chosen? What is that journey like?”

What are you reading at the moment?

I'm currently in David Eddings' Belgariad series, which I adored as a teen, and hadn't gone back to since hearing the allegations about him. Rediscovering all the things I loved about it, it's such a comfort read.
If you’re someone who still reads for pleasure, you are a marvel. If you’re able to unplug from all the chaos of our entertainment culture and disappear into the warmth and solace of a book, that is a rare gift and I’m very glad to know you.

For decades, “South Park” has been crude, cynical and childish.
That may be what makes it perfect for this moment:

Who else is watching South Park?

I was never a fan, just saw it as crude and pointless.

Season 27 is crude and topical. I watched the first ep as there were memes everywhere, and... I'm kinda into it. It's still gross, but with excellent satire. Finding myself looking forward to what they do next.
