I used to use "the Monroe Doctrine" as a joke, making references to pieces of history that weren't directly related to current events. Add it to the list of things that are suddenly contemporary issues, along with Smoot/Hawley, Teapot Dome, and the 3rd Amendment.

I'm really grateful that I'm trans, if only because it taught me that nearly every aspect of who I am can be changed.
People mostly talk about the physical aspects of transition, but I feel like I'm constantly remaking myself—my personality or otherwise—into the type of person I want to be.
