I used to make video game and tech content as a day job, from 2007 to 2020. Now I do QGIS stuff, Ignition SCADA things and water loss reduction shenanigans. I also write books that aren't very good. And I'm trying to make a game about a duck. Also, I run.

Because it's #worldwaterlossday let me share a few tips about reducing water loss in a distribution network. Some of this was part of a presentation I gave at IoTWeek 2022 in Dublin.
Happy #worldwaterlossday everybody. Make sure to not lose water, or the naib of the sietch will take yours.

Hey! If you’ve ever liked my voice, now, before the end of the year, would be a really good time to hire me for any SAG-approved projects!

Asking as someone who loves VO, and also really loves having halfway decent health insurance

Wi-fi at work is out for some reason.
A weird reason as it turns out.

The IT department canceled the contract with the provider.

Why?

Well

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Playing Control AWE, there are yellow tarps everywhere now to show you where to go, but god forbid they use the Ray Tracing they keep going on and on about these days to make the light at the door in the pitch black room shine on the wall next to it si you can actually see it.

Ever have one of those days when you've got a script running on a server that has outdated credentials to an API and keeps locking the account tied to the API because it executes more than 3 times, and you can't find it?

Like, the server.

I can't find it.

Coool. Finally got enough money to buy a new SSD and the price of every SSD kept going up since last time, so... still going to need to win the lottery.

I often joke that whenever a company hires me, it is at most 5 years away from reaching the end of its life. ArenaTV was 4 years. Games-Arena was 6 years if I add the time when I was doing just news. GamingHD was 4-5 years, depending on how you count. ZonaIT was the only one that escaped the curse.

Finished teaching my first course about #GIS using #QGIS, #PosgreSQL and #DBeaver. People seemed. To be content enough with having learned something.

I could have done a better job.

I for one, don't condone shoving people into wood chippers feet first.

It's hands first, then you take them out when they get to the elbows and THEN feet.

Anything else is just bad form and a waste of sensitive nerve endings.

The course I'm about to teach next week has about 20 people registered so far.

I may end up disappointing a lot more people than usual.

Weird how a 16GB video card released this year has trouble running a video game from 6 years ago on high settings.

Sure, it's not a top end video card. But, man, my X1950 Pro, which was also about half the price of the top end equivalent, had no trouble running games released in 2001.

You know, AI chat bots get a lot of flak, and they should, they're encouraging kids to off themselves. But, at the same time, It came up with a long ass regex that I can't be bothered to understand. If a machine's going to ask me to ask it what to search for, I may as well ask a machine.

Got a call from a marketer inviting me to a 'health product' presentation. He was very professional, very on script, constantly, didn't even flinch when I asked him to disregard previous statements and sing a song, or by that fact that I spent 5 minutes claiming I was an immortal vampire.

I keep asking myself something for the last 20 years.

Is it really that cold in hell?

Or is that one of those ever burning flames that are everywhere and they didn't bother to put it out so they turned it into a fireplace?

The more I get into Linux system management, the more I think that game devs are Linux enthusiasts, or vice-versa, because they both hate user interfaces that use resizable windows and would rather you not use a mouse for anything.
