The Burien Severe Weather Shelter is open this week and in need of volunteers. Because the nature of severe weather shelters make opening unpredictable, it can be difficult to have volunteers ready to go on short notice. Thank you for helping our neighbors in the cold!

I've been having aphids show up in my indoor hydroponic garden. Earlier, in the bathroom, I found someone who will put them to better use than me (I've just been wantonly squashing them)

Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

A re-emphasis not to bring your phone to protests. Even fairly tame ones.
New: we've obtained material explaining how an ICE surveillance system, called Webloc, works. Draw shape on a map, see all phones available there, follow them home. All without warrant

Indivisible et al (the #NoKings folks) are calling for #IceOutForGood actions this weekend, so keep your eyes out for a bunch of protests this weekend
www.mobilize.us/indivisible/ lists local events (currently the ones I'm seeing listed are regularly occuring ones, which are good too)

At this point, should American citizens start writing to the UN or leaders of other governments or something begging them to stop our government somehow?

These pants I got from the thrift store have some sort of coating on them (😅 now wondering if it's PFAS or whatever) and came out of the laundry with some discoloration, but it looks like a snow flake!

Struggling with the Libby app :( a client was talking about Neal Stephenson and I was like, "I should read more of him" and then he recommended William Gibson, so I just tried to grab books by both of them, and couldn't find any complete trilogies from either writer among the audiobooks on Libby

Behold! Bed of champions! (I'm staying at my dad's old house, we already moved the bed to his new house, so I racheted the sofa and chaise together XD

Tangentially, anyone btwn Portland & Seattle want a couch or chaise lounge? They won't fit at Dad's new place.

Helping my dad move. He doesn't get access to the new place until tomorrow, so that meant I got to spend all day slowly fussy fitting everything perfectly into my van

I'm trying to get the vehicle speed sensor out of my friends Toyota Corolla and the damn thing is stuck and I'm losing my mind. I sprayed the dang thing with PB Blaster, clamped on it with locking pliers, got a small pry bar under it... Not a wiggle.

I bought the audiobooks of Becky Chambers' Wayfarer series so I can relisten to them whenever I want. My first audiobook purchase.
I'm 80% through my favorite, Record of a Spaceborn Few. I love the Fleet. I love the dissection of the human workings of it. I love Sawyer's earnest efforts. I love it

Oh dear, I think the only thing I've read of hers so far is Disability Visibility, which is a story collection she edited, with accounts spanning a range of disabilities and experiences. It was powerful and beautiful. I'm sad that it's the news of her passing that prompts me to bring her up

I don't like: when she makes biscuits in my flesh (ouch)

I adore: when she makes biscuits in the air.

She's also been doing this thing where she'll come up and sit at my feet and look up at me and make little biscuits on the floor, which is approximately the cutest thing in the world

I’ve said this many times but it’s worth repeating:

When it comes to voting, we have an Election Day deadline.

When it comes to election results, we have an Election Week.

The more media sets this expectation, the less confusion and more trust we’ll have in our great vote by mail system. #waelex

Hurried home from Portland to make sure I had enough time to fill out and turn in my ballot. Hopefully we can flip Burien away from all the NIMBY bullshit that's been prevailing

"A movie you've seen more than 7 times with a gif"
I remember in my teens, there was a week or so where I was really into The Terminal. I don't remember why and I don't remember the movie that well.
