Glorious thread of great examples of sassy/snarky responses to academic questions. Just beautiful.
I heard a story about a female academic giving a paper at the IHR who, after receiving a long and aggressive question from a senior male professor, simply leaned back with her hands behind her head and replied “Oh, do fuck off.”
One of my colleagues went to a seminar at Berkeley and when someone asked a question Derrida brushed it off saying ‘what you ask may be important but it is not interesting’.

It also doesn‘t mean it legalizes gay marriage just cause one country has to recognise a marriage from another country - that doesn‘t help any of the queer people there whatsoever. Because again it is NOT a federal state ffs
BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

Huge congrats to all the very deserving early career academics who got DECRAs. And condolences to the much larger group of deserving people who didn't get DECRAs. Just remember that the vast majority of successful academics you know also didn't get DECRAs!

I’d love to see a controlled study where they compare 2 different unexpected costume events. Say, Batman and a clown. Or SpongeBob. Something not related to pro-sociality.
That said, love this finding.

Tortoises are amazing creatures. My mum’s childhood pet tortoise lived to around 70, aging with its owner. It was a loss to four generations when he died a few year ago. Imagine what Gramma means to so many more people.
"The zoo did the math, calling Gramma 'a witness to history' whose lifetime included the tenures of 20 U.S. presidents, two World Wars and two pandemics."

RIP Gramma
'Queen of the Zoo' Gramma the tortoise dies after century at San Diego Zoo
Gramma arrived in San Diego between 1928–1931 as part of the first group of Galápagos tortoises to come to the zoo.
